earleygallery Posted March 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I used to own an M3 with the close focus 50mm Summicron. This lens had spectacles which you fitted if using the close focus range, otherwise they stayed off. What I'd like to know is with the 35mm M3 lenses with specs, are the specs part of the lens body/mount or do they slip off, if you wanted to use the lens on another camera? Advertisement Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here M3 lenses with 'specs'. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted March 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2007 James, my understanding is that they stay on all the time. I believe the lens brings up the 50mm framelines - the widest on an M3 - and the specs adjust the angle of view so that the 50mm framelines take up the angle of view of a 35mm lens. bill Posted March 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 15, 2007 James, Steve's absolutely right. They are not removable, and bring up the 50mm framelines if used on anything other than an M3. Regards, Bill
luigi bertolotti Posted March 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 15, 2007 Correct, confirm: the very first 35s with goggles (f 3,5) had indeed a pair of screw one can dismount the specs with, but was only a manufacturing method, not made for a dismountable-by-user unit. Incidentally, the leather bag for lenses with specs is beautiful... (I have one....) and the really detachable specs of the Summicron 50 short-distance had a proper leather small bag (I have not, but damn someday I'll find one....) earleygallery Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted March 15, 2007 Just another question, am I therefore right in thinking that if you use a 35mm M3 lens on another M, it will select the 50mm frame line and the specs will convert the field of view appropriately or does it just work on the M3 finder (which has a different magnification of course). stunsworth Posted March 15, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) James, it'll work on any M.
buchhold Posted March 22, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 22, 2010 James, it'll work on any M. and the googled 35 mm lenses are beautyful for people who wear glasses, because behind the camera they only need to view into the 50mm frame.
earleygallery Posted March 22, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted March 22, 2010 Someone's been using the search function! That was quite odd, reading an old post wondering if I'd lost my memory

Luigi, do you have a picture of the 35 leather bag? That would be very interesting, because I think, that that is an accessory, which hasn't been shown in this forum yet.
