My Lord: that last Rolleflex set? Insane... what is that: the Wide, Standard and Tele models- all in the FX designation! what a set!!- I can just imagine it sitting on some billionaires dresser at the country villa in Crete... but do they use it?

What a shame...

I doubt if much of this stuff gets used. (Excepting the stroller.) That is certainly something to think about regarding the Hassy Lunar. It just comes down to figuring out ways to make things "collectible" if you have a brand name that qualifies. Just adding the name "Ferrari" will qualify an average Olympus it seems. So it is funny that Hasselblad is using their own name on a Sony camera when they resorted to the Ferrari brand for their own camera. Expect to see a limited Akio Morita tribute Ferrari edition of the Hassy Lunar.

I don't know why wealthy people are such suckers for this stuff but I guess they can't think of better things to do with some of their money. I guess that Rollei set is prettier on a desk than some kinds of expensive sculpture.

Check out these "design exercise" bicycles. I have no idea what they cost, quantity made, or if anyone ever rides them. Or for that matter.... why they were even designed. This kind of makes the Hassy Lunar look pretty simple.

Leica's isn't exactly betting the house on their P smith monstrosity- nor making a laughing stock of themselves.... no they are just quietly cashing in on an extremely profitable little sideline... Meanwhile Hasselblad has received almost* universal condemnation for their efforts...

*seemingly everyone except Honcho...

You need to read my posts on this thread more carefully. Try #37. It might help you.

Oh, how the world is changing. Now when I think "Hasselblad" I need to think "fancy Sony

from a traditional company bought by outside money and ignoring brand legacy." I

certainly want to pay a premium for "Swedish quality" - like for a Saab -oh, can't get those any more - or a Volvo from China. At least there's still authentic lingonberry sauce available and it will leave a much better taste in my mouth than this Lunar lunacy.

Most people associate 'Swedish quality' with IKEA.

...... but most people are not a good barometer. Ask 'most people' what they think of Hasselblad. "What's that?"

As an afterthought, the designer of the Lunar should be thanked for diverting attention away from that vomit-inducing Paul Smith X2.....thing.

Or doesn't that matter?

My stomach is not so delicate... but agree that P.S. X2 is well around such a mood... but, as an Italian, I find also a bit disturbing Hasselblad insistence on the Italian style of the Lunar... :(

I don't like the idea behind the Paul smith X2 (fashion accessory for non photographers), but idodig the colours!!! then again I also love te new anthracite finish of the M-E.

the Lunar, though, looks like total crap! lol

'total crap'... succinctly put and so true.

I wonder how all this is going down at Blad' HQ?... I can see some angry Euro banker types frowning sternly  as they look to post photokina PR reports - and a couple of sharp but worried looking Latin types gesticulating wildly and enthusing about the luxurious beauty and mystique of Italian fashion-and how stupid camera luddites just don't understand, yet, but they will- you will see.. just give us more time (and money:cool:)

as for the m-e - I hate the name... May as well have called it the 'iLeica' ...

but I like the anthracite - but think the red dot clashes- should be a black dot- ash grey- or khaki... Same for the Chrome M- red dot looks no good... not even sure if black would be much better...?

Sad days, these are ...

One of the greatest designs, and design ideas/concepts, born out of the ashes of WWII has succumbed to "quick ROI" pressure. Probably never to recover.

There aren't enough business visionaries, enough Dr. Kaufmans, etc. Leica was fortunate.

I live in Dubai and work next to the Dubai Mall. Bling central.

There's a Hasselblad Solar for sale in one of the main stores. It's prominently displayed, and I have yet to see anyone show the slightest interest.

If you can't sell bling in Dubai, you probably can't sell it anywhere.

You'd have to have been a brain donor to buy one of these, I'm all for adding syle and flair and great design is an Art Form in itself, but this is just an attempt at trying to hoodwink people buy doing no more than selling a very competent Sony with moulded auxiliary parts made from nice materials. The fact that nobody is buying them says it all. People will pay for quality but won't always fall for companies trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

the new sony Leica killers seems to have similar lines on the grip to the Luna(tic) piece of crap. So at least maybe the exercise wasn't a total waste? The y probably took those lines from elswhere themselves though... all is pastiche. I will keep my 500C/M- for any cameraphile it has the feel of 'great purity'- but it is official: Hasselblad in the 21st Century is dead and gone and in a blase of ignominy. Brand finished. I hope the turds who put together that project are shunned int heir communities, and their 'work' effaced from the pages history.

I am proud to own several V-series Hasselblads; I hang my head in shame whenever I see a Lunar in a camera shop. How the mighty have fallen!

The V is, in my mind, the best camera design ever.. It's functional, small, light, perfectly modular and very beautiful. I at times detest my H series Blad. I can not for the life of me understand why they went that route, rather than develop for digital, what I consider the perfect solution that already existed.

How the Mighty have fallen, indeed.
