Advertisement Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Hi mike-b, Take a look here M8 Batteries. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Erik Gunst Lund Posted September 15, 2012 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2012 If you use search you will find many threads here on the subject. IMHO the original is not that expensive and it just works Two will keep you going for a complete day without any problems. Some OEM batteries have problems telling the camera about their charge, very annoying! Welcome btw
jip Posted September 15, 2012 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2012 I've got 2 NON leica batteries and they work just fine. I'll search it up tonight, bought mine on ebay.
iedei Posted September 15, 2012 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2012 i have been wondering the same. I've done several searches on here and found many threads pertaining to the issue-----however there seems to be MUCH disagreement as some users refuse to use 'generic' batteries, while others seem to think there is no difference at all. there are also the paranoid users who are scared a generic battery will "explode" or something severe....i'm not sure these worries are really justified as the world is full of many generic batteries for all sorts of devices, and i can't imagine they explode very often. lol. does anybody have a somewhat reliable 'generic' battery source that is known to be good or functional? there are so many different brands and sources online. tobey bilek Posted September 15, 2012 Share #5 Posted September 15, 2012 An expensive camera worth several thousands and you want to look for a cheap battery! Get real. That is like the people who put cheap dirty low octane fuel in the car and complain it does not run correctly.
lct Posted September 15, 2012 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2012 I've got 2 NON leica batteries and they work just fine... Never seen this so far. Try to charge them whilst they are half empty and you will get false meter readings. If i'm wrong on this, please be kind enough to disclose the brand of the battery here as you have discovered the first non Leica battery which works normally AFAIK. lct Posted September 15, 2012 Share #7 Posted September 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...does anybody have a somewhat reliable 'generic' battery source that is known to be good or functional? there are so many different brands and sources online. According to the « FAQ LEICA M8 & LEICA M8.2 - Status September 2008 » leaflet (http://tinyurl.com/8hz5pxx), third party batteries are « not equipped with the charging circuitry dedicated to the camera electronics, therefore malfunctions may occur, such as a false indication of the remaining capacity, or the camera may switch itself off suddenly and unexpectedly. Above all, the camera’s warranty expires if malfunctioning is caused by the use of none-dedicated accessories ». In practice, i mainly use third party batteries myself (DTSE, Oege, unnamed ones found on e**y) as i don't like to be ripped-off but they all need to be fully discharged in the camera to work properly. rjans Posted September 16, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 16, 2012 I use non branded batteries for other digicams than the Leica M8. However, for my M8 I use 2 Leica branded batteries. They are 3 times more expensive as the non Leica but what is the price of a battery compared to the price of the camera body.. Best

They are 3 times more expensive as the non Leica but what is the price of a battery compared to the price of the camera body.. Best point taken. I only need 1 more battery to serve as a spare....so I'll probably just shell out for an original.....although I have yet to run out of battery while out on the streets----I seem to get about 150 pics on a charge...shooting dng+jpg
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted September 16, 2012 Share #10 Posted September 16, 2012 Sounds a bit like a worn out battery to me. Normally you ought to take the double (or more) of this number. Best GEORG
