marknorton Posted September 18, 2012 Share #24 Posted September 18, 2012 Ditto. Silver Chrome is by far the hardest wearing.
jaques Posted September 24, 2012 Share #25 Posted September 24, 2012 all three of you have ordered already? Have any of you seen actual image samples? I assume they will be great... what do you think of the look of the chrome M? I don't think it looks as nice at the front as the M9-p. Looks to me like the M is floating and lost- and the red dot is too big. I miss the illumination window... I know its absurd: but these aesthetic considerations actually bother me. They may even save me a heap of money... I am correct to assume the black M is paint? If it was chrome I would be a poorer man but possibly marginally happier... timberline12k Posted September 24, 2012 Author Share #26 Posted September 24, 2012 The Leica M will be my first Leica, so aesthetic changes don't really bother me. The specs which include 24MP, durable chrome finish (silver only), liveview and focus confirmation plus the unexpected weather sealing matched my wish list. I plan to use a 35mm and 50mm with the traditional rangefinder OVF. Time will tell if liveview is all I need for my 21mm. If so, I may not ever need the EVF. IkarusJohn Posted September 24, 2012 Share #27 Posted September 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am correct to assume the black M is paint? If it was chrome I would be a poorer man but possibly marginally happier... Apparently so. Black paint doesn't appeal to me (I'm not in the market for an M anyway). I know there are many here who think black paint is the bees, and they like the way the paint rubs off ... I have only one silver chrome lens (50 Summilux ASPH) - black lenses on a silver camera look fine, silver on a black body doesn't look right to me. I'm also not a fan of the return of the red dot and the large M - it's all too busy and ostentatious to me. I bet they offer a more subdued option in a couple of years, along with black chrome. I've ordered a Monochrom with silver chrome M9-P top and bottom plates. It will look plain, and will match my M9 perfectly. Cheers John
philipus Posted September 25, 2012 Share #28 Posted September 25, 2012 There's nothing wrong with black lenses on chrome bodies. Or the other way around. After selling the M3 I'm only using black bodies these days. Lenses are predominantly black though I have some chrome too. If I were to get the M, which I might, it would be in black paint because I like the wear and brassing. Chrome lenses are (sometimes significantly) heavier than the black ones. Welcome, dear visitor! tobey bilek Posted September 25, 2012 Share #29 Posted September 25, 2012 I just received a new M9P in chrome finish. Classic Leica finish almost. Chrome Rigid Looks really nice on it as does latest 50 2.8 and 90 4.0 in chrome. 35 V4 2.0 also looks good. Black lenses look good on chrome, but the reverse is ok , but not as attractive in my opinion. I intensely dislike painted bodys of any color. Worn and scratched paint just make the camera look junky. Some may like it, just not me. A mayor reason for me to buy the P was the plated finish. My M8 is black chrome. Bright chrome ones are scarce, but attractive.
NotoriousSEG Posted March 5, 2014 Share #30 Posted March 5, 2014 Call me crazy, but I find the black body/chrome lens combo to be very attractive. But then again, I always have been a rebel.
