carstenw Posted March 13, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2007 An interesting shot. A bit dark, perhaps...
stuny Posted March 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2007 Mike - Excellent composition, shapes, patterns, details and depth. I feel it needs to be lightened a bit...

jmr Posted March 14, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 14, 2007 Mike, well seen and captured. I think Stuart's take improves the shot, but I also think there's more potential in there yet.

jmr Posted March 14, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mike, this may be a little extreme, but... I added some local contrast, darkened the top of the sky using levels and a layer mask, ditto the lower corners and the line of trees in the distance, then I added some toning and sharpened a little. You could do a lot better with the original, especially in the sharpening, but this gives you an idea of an alternative (not better - just different) treatment. mitchell Posted March 14, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 14, 2007 I always love these comparisons. I learn a lot from them. I see the appeal of both the reworked images, but I like the original the best. It feels like the reworked ones are images yelling at me for attention, whereas the original is a real quiet place itself. It always seems a question in my own work, how high do I rev things up? How much sizzle? How much steak? Just my take. Obviously others may differ. Best, Mitchell
Guest stnami Posted March 14, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 14, 2007 the composition is compelling but lacks punch for the net... and another version I tweeked in LAB colour + a quirk
Photoskeptic Posted March 14, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 14, 2007 Obviously well captured. All the compositions are good. Why didn't anyone of you straighten the horizon? I would have cropped or PS'd the airplane vapor trails. Just rambling.
ECliffordSmith Posted March 14, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 14, 2007 Mike, Lovely composition, I like the sense of confusion and lonliness this image suggests. Like a maze.
mwalker649 Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted March 14, 2007 Imants, Is LAB colour a plug in for PS or a stand alone? +quirk? I like the change in the sky. Thanks Ed, I like your read.
Rolo Posted March 14, 2007 Share #14 Posted March 14, 2007 really nice catchg Mike. Well done. The advice given improves the image nicely. Rolo
azzo Posted March 14, 2007 Share #15 Posted March 14, 2007 VERY nicely seen, framed and captured Mike. While all interpretations work well, I find that for me, the best way to present this lovely image is by adding contrast to the lower part, and darken and not lighten the top part. Wish I knew how to attach it to this thread, obviously with Mike's permission. Azzo

rob_x2004 Posted March 14, 2007 Share #18 Posted March 14, 2007 Interesting image. Like the repetition and can see it working well as a print. I dont understand why no one has bothered to straightened it?

Rolo Posted March 14, 2007 Share #20 Posted March 14, 2007 Interesting image. Like the repetition and can see it working well as a print. I dont understand why no one has bothered to straightened it? Put your levelling rule on the post holes in the last photo and you'll find it been straightened, methinks. Rolo
