Thorsten Overgaard Photo Seminars

I did a full workshop in Berlin recently; it was a wonderful time and the tips and techniques and discussions ranged from very basic to more advanced. As a new M9 shooter, it was great for me to be mentored by someone who really uses his M9 and knows its every possibility...Thorsten's well-brassed M9 tells its own stories. It was also great to be with other M9 users (the workshops don't demand you have an M9, but it does attract a lot of Leica users naturally), and to see the way they frame things. We had a range of wide angle to 90mm users. I could have used some more time with Lightroom...more just in getting my workflow organized, but I was glad we didn't spend the majority of our time sitting in front of computers.

Which brings me to what I think was the best part - the actual photography. We essentially wandered Berlin, going to cafes, going for dinner, taking pictures all the time, comparing notes, discussing important tips as they occurred . Thorsten was a stylish, class act and his elegance of lifestyle and his photography style and the choices he makes go hand-in-hand. One of the main things he emphasizes are the pursuit of good light (something we all need), and what I would call 'shooting confidence and professionalism'. The workshop has this informal quality, yet you always feel like you're learning, like you have a job to do. If you've read his extensive article/review on the M9, or watched his Lightroom youtube/vimeo clips, you'll get a sense of his 'way of being'. I'd highly recommend his workshop.

Hi Dan,

I am a Leica Photographer from Switzerland and I have attended several of Thorsten's Seminars & Workshops thru out Europe.

Thorsten's seminars are one of a kind, especially if you shoot with Leica M rangefinder cameras. I can recommend him whole heartely and I'm not the only one. Many other photographers I know now went thru the same process starting out with a seminar from Thorsten Overgaard.

I think his approach is unique in the way that he will be getting you to really think about light, subject and composition (aesthetics) apart from also learning a lot about the technical basics underlining photography when framing your picture. Most important - he will be inducing new enthusiasm in your photographic work!

You will gain a lot by this and also meet other like minded people, so you can learn from other ideas and styles as well.

Nevertheless it is important for you to know, that at these seminars you must be willing to "work" on your photography (in theory and in practice) instead of just consuming from Thorsten's knowledge to benefit the most.

Thorsten's seminars are very special and I promise you will be getting very seriously engaged in bringing your photography to a new level.

Best, Matthias

P.S.

To get an idea about this, do consult Thorsten's website and articles e.g.

Hi,

it is the best thing you can do to get self-confident with your photography and become a lot of new input. Doing one of Thordten Overgaards workshop is having a great time and when finished and go home you find out how much you learned and how useful it was. Also the workflow becomes better organized and there is no more confusion.

I did two workshops this year and will do one in october in London. I really can recommend you to do.

Have a good time:)

I attended Thorsten's workshop in Berlin last year and thoroughly enjoyed. Learning with him gave me the confidence to photograph people and simply take pictures. I also really like Thorsten's pictures and style so it was really helpful for me to attend his workshop. Being the fine lad that he is, I also subsequently met him in other places in the world were we coincided as he's really great company.

do it, do it, do it - best I've ever done ..

I have always wanted to take really good black / white images - but it was always more luck than sense - it's reversed now .. I got a lot of basic knowledge about lighting, white balance and not least a luggage filled with tips and ideas .. every time I take my camera - I think of some of the things Thorsten taught me and the fun begins .. I fell in love with my camera at the workshop!

I participated in the LA seminar in the USA a few years ago. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their awareness both artistic and technical skill sets. Thorsten not only is a great photographer but even a better teacher and communicator.

Sometimes there is a lack of confidence when shooting and critiquing ones photographic abilites. Being one on one with Thorsten helps you make sure you have in a very customize fashion your fundamentals down. Additionally, he improves your photographic awareness.

Watching him in action doing street photography was helpful. As in the medical field, see one, do one, teach one. I have no proprietary interest in promoting his course:).
