johnloumiles Posted August 23, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm wanted to find a really good history of Leica book that takes a honest look at the good times and bad. I feel like I have a lot of pieces here and there but I want to fill in all the gaps. Thanks!
Advertisement Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Hi johnloumiles, Take a look here Best Leica History Book. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sabears Posted August 23, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 23, 2012 To start seriously, you can begin from: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/James_Lager best wishes.
pedaes Posted August 23, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 23, 2012 Puts does a reasonable job in his Compendium which is a bit more up to date than Lager. This is still available new so don't use E-bay for a copy if you are interested.
sabears Posted August 23, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 23, 2012 Agree, even if Puts is more from a user point of view, anyway Lager trilogy is totally another history. We can say: Puts for the landscape, Lager trilogy if you want to use binoculars. Of course there are always approximations, less in Lager, that does not cover all the modern commercial products. best wishes.
Keith (M) Posted August 24, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2012 The 'one volume' solution that covers everything up to and including the M9-P has to be Erwin Puts's 'Leica Compendium' ISBN 978-94-91089-05-3. I am still working my way through it (3rd edition) and feel I have so far only scratched the surface of a fascinating subject.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 3, 2012 Share #6 Posted September 3, 2012 Puts and Lager are well complementing one to each other : for the history of Leitz/Leica as a Company Puts is much more in depth and complete, Lager is unbeatable on the details about products.
