14138 Televit to 280/4.8 and 400/5: New batch to be made

Thanks JC... curiously the 2 Televit for R seem to be slightly different just in the zone we are speaking of... the one on the SL2 seems to have a rather "long" R bayonet assembly... indeed very similar to the one of the Telyt-S, as speculated by wildlightphoto... it could be modified for Viso usage probably exactly as I did; on the contrary, the Televit onto R4 looks someway different at that end... I am not expert on R gear so hadn't idea that Televit was modified during its life : but I remember well to have seen items that , in front of the grip are engraved "Televit - R", while others, as for your R4 pic, are simply engraved "Televit"... looking at this well illustrated item now on ebay (http://www.ebay.it/itm/Leica-Leitz-Wetzlar-Telyt-Leica-R-560mm-f5-6-Televit-Rapid-Focus-BOXED-in-EU-/171026501839?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item27d1f950cf) it looks that the one marked Televit-R has really a long R bayonet which surely has the "space" to be reworked to accept M bayonet for Viso : this makes me think that when the 2 versions were both listed, probably they made an identical "tube" with 2 different back mounts (for R and Viso) , then, when only the R version was listed, they changed it a little.

Could one of the Televits be a Televit V with a black 14167 V to R adapter mounted? My 400/560 kit came with two adapters: a silver coloured 14127 and a black 14167. I sold both of them to forum members.

From the JC pic indeed one can have such a doubt... but give a look at the ebay listing I linked above... there is a a pair of very clear pictures from which I'd say that the R mount is really "long" by itself... and really looks like a lot the R mount of the Telyt-S (see hereunder... its back component, apart the absence of the pistol grip, is basically engineered very similar to the Televit) :

Hi Guys,

Can the Televit-R be adapted to fit onto a Visoflex? There are a few about for sale at the moment, but I'd need to fit it to my M or screw cameras. I have a Viso 11 screwfit as well as the M Visos.

Susie

See my post above - a possible adaptation.

But the R mount can be replaced by an M mount. I had it done by Will van Manen. Can I interest anybody in a like-new R mount for Televit? ;)

Jaap, I suppose that after the modification made by Van Manen the R mount that was left in your hands is exactly this component, right ? :

Which is clear that can be exchanged by an almost identical V mount (se my above pair of pics) : just need a good workshop like Van Manen.

What I am a bit surprised of is that apparently there are also Televit R which are differrently made, and probably can't be adapted this way... what do you think about this ?

By the thickness of the mount, it looks as if the Televit R must have a longer main inner tube.

Yes... an oddity...... The Televit hadn't a long life... I didn't think it had been modified (sorry to dedicate many posts to this question, I always have fun making such little discoveries in the Leica history... ;))

Luigi,

If you look at the distance from the filter holder to the back of the tube, I would guess the tube on the Televit R must be around 4 to 5mm longer.

Very interesting - I have an early (modified) and late Televit R, differentiated by the connection of the shoulder stock*. Both mounts are identical, though. This one must be a third version.

* The early one connects through a bajonet in the back of the slide, the later one has a tripod-screw connection with two locating lugs in the bottom of the grip.

Is the late one engraved Televit R in front ? I suppose yes.... definitely, all the oddity is in JC picture (#13)... Televit is mounted on a R.... but the "Televit" engraving (which is exactly like mine) hasn't the "R", and the code, though not superclear, looks 14136 .... to say Televit for Viso... and also the lever for turning 90° looks unfamiliar...(ok, let's wait for JC to come back from his rifle-range championship.... ;))

The one on the pict with the R4 is without the shoulder stock bajonet connection and is just engraved Televit.

Cannot tell is his moment if it is the first or second version.

Luigi, when you were planning to modify your 800, I sent you different picts about the rear mount, do you have always these picts ?

They are both marked Televit-R.

Hum... surely didn't delete them... but I would have to search seriously... time passed and changed my PC after the modification... they must be on some old backup.... do you need some specific detail related to the 800 ?

The R mount on my Telyt 800 is similar to the Televit R you see on the pict.

Hi Guys,

Last week I bought a Televit outfit complete with the 560 and 400mm heads, all in a fitted Leica leather case. The lenses are spotless and all is in excellent condition except for the trigger brake mechanism.

Here is one of the first pics taken with the 560mm

Of course there wasn't a 280mm adapter! I assume the bayonet side of the adapter is a copy of the bayonet for attaching the preset aperture tube. Is the threaded hole the correct size for the 400mm f/5 lens head with another ring to reduce the thread for the 280mm lens head or are there seperate bayonet fit adapters for the two lenses?

Will the 280mm lens have to be recessed at all into the focussing tube to focus at infinity or is there plenty of movement to allow this anyway?

If anyone can supply dimensions of the original adapter, I'll have a look into making one to start with, and then a small run if it works out okay - assuming that the original scheme to have them made has fallen flat.

Best wishes,

Susie

I no longer have a 14138 adapter so I can't supply the dimensions but I do have a couple of photos if this will help:
