Advertisement Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Hi stump4545, Take a look here leica m lenses hard briefcase. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bocaburger Posted August 22, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2012 Are you in the US? Watch ShopNBC when they're selling Invicta watches. They usually have at least one watch per show that comes with a free 8-slot Pelican case. The watch slots are just the right size for many M lenses except the really big ones like 90 Cron. Noct etc.
pico Posted August 22, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2012 where can i get a hard briefcase type case with foam inserts to store about 7-8 m lenses? It might be best to get the briefcase, then separate foam padding. Korchmar Schlesinger brand is good.
Messsucherkamera Posted August 22, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) It sounds like what you want is a Pelican 1504 case with the padded Velcro divider insert ($125USD). You can find them at B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders I have the 1504 with the divider insert I mentioned. IMHO it is a much better choice than the pick 'n pluck foam. The Velcro divider insert is much more versatile - you can reconfigure the layout in seconds. More importantly, you avoid the loose tiny shreds of foam that happen as the pick 'n pluck insert ages. These will work their way into your lenses and camera bodies unless you are constantly cleaning them out of the case and insert. ymc226 Posted August 22, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 22, 2012 I have 3 or 4 large Zero Halliburton cases for my cameras (Leica and Hasselblad) and lenses. Size-wise, they are perfect but I replaced the their foam with a more durable type that will not out gas and which will not deteriorate after prolonged exposure to a hot environment. Photography | ZERO Halliburton This is part of an email I received from my foam supplier regarding the differing types of foam: Ethafoam is the most stable foam made and is used by achivists in art and science. it is a firm closed cell foam and the firmness can be made very firm with high density grades but we stock it in a lighter grade that is still firm compared to the Ester Polyurethane you regularly buy for your camera cases but the grade we have has a slight give to it for easier hand cutting and grip to contents. Eggcrate is only available in the softer Ester Polyurethane which does outgas and over many years of closed storage can effect some optical coatings. You could take the eggcrate upper shell foam pad and seal it in a plastic bag that would also provide "give" yet prevent any possible flaking contamination. Be prepared for a bit of sticker shock as the price Ethafoam and crosslinked poly is 2-3 times higher per cubic foot of stock. I also have some Ethafoam with antistatic additives but you probably do not need that.

esquire53 Posted August 22, 2012 Share #8 Posted August 22, 2012 I really like the Pelican Storm 2300 series for home storage It provides a better hasps opening system then the standard Pelican series. you can get it with the cube foam inside I also use a smaller one for traveling, M body and 3 lenses. Just perfect

I bought my cases used in excellent condition mostly from this Ebay seller. He has been very reliable. He is also the one that educated me about the different grades of foam and cuts to size. Prices are very reasonable and shipping is quick. ZERO HALLIBURTON ALUMINUM CASE CAMERA LAPTOP PISTOL GUN *NEW* 103 / 18X13X6.5" | eBay
algrove Posted August 23, 2012 Share #10 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) Nothing wrong with Zero Halliburton. I uswd to have and carry them for years. For travel they eventually attracted too much attention. So today for the home and travel, I would vote for the Pelican 1504 with moveable dividers which has foam in the lid area. Yes, good for the Noct, 90 cron and 75 cron. Check the dimensions before buying anything. Edited August 23, 2012 by algrove

You might want to browse Pacsafe, too. Browse other categories as well.
Paul J Posted August 23, 2012 Share #13 Posted August 23, 2012 pelican with lid locks? Some do. My 1490 does for example. That will certainly fit a small M kit laying flat rather than vertically. But generally, no. Those lid locks are pretty easy to break if you know how so don't deter the professional theives. Some of those lid locks use a generic key as well - next to useless. I have one key that opens about 4 cheap cases that I have. They do all have lock holes though which will fit a padlock or combination lock. I use them to fly with. I think it's better that way. Paul J Posted August 23, 2012 Share #14 Posted August 23, 2012 Rimowa cases are nice too. They made a custom one for Leica a few years ago that came with a titanium limited edition. Would be nice to find one as a 3 lens kit case. Of corse I don't think I ever will though. They have some really nice cases though and do camera inserts too. stump4545 Posted August 23, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted August 23, 2012 it seems the velcro padded dividers are really practical but any reason why the cut out foam solution is better? i think i am going to be pick my up a pelican storm 2300. thanks
Paul J Posted August 23, 2012 Share #16 Posted August 23, 2012 I have both kinds. I feel the foam has more of a snug fit. I like it for that alone. It possibly has more protection/cushioning and absorption from drops or impact too. One thing I do know is the foam falls to bits after alot of use. The dividers don't. I think the dividers are a bit more abrasive too when they are tight fitting. I chose foam where possible and replace it when needed.
algrove Posted August 24, 2012 Share #17 Posted August 24, 2012 Where ever I have abrasive dividers I put my M lenses in Zing neoprene bags in order to tighten the fit within the dividers and to reduce any abrasion on my lenses. It works for me.
tobey bilek Posted August 24, 2012 Share #18 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) Do they still make the Halliburton cases? Perfect for you, http://www.zappos.com/zero-halliburton~1 Attache slimline briefcase. The only problem is these scream something expensive inside. Pros used to buy them back in the day, tow them around behind their car for 50 miles, put a zilliion travel stickers on them, then put them into service for intended use.
