Mainline1957 Posted August 21, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I'm looking for a parts camera that will give me a decent salvage for a barn find reporter gg. Is it true that a IIIa (g) is the model base? will this give me parts I need or should I source parts seperately for this model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Advertisement Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Hi Mainline1957, Take a look here Reporter query. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted August 21, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 21, 2012 Yes, the Leica 250 (aka "reporter") model GG is based on the Leica IIIa (aka "model G") : basically, shutter and VF/RF are the same... but all the wind / advancing mechanism is "proprietary" of the reporter with a number of special components... and, of course those are also the parts that are rather probable to be worn on a heavily used/old reporter; 250 is a precious rare camera : I think it would be better to have it checked by an expert lab before deciding which kind of maintenance it can need. Mainline1957 Posted August 21, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted August 21, 2012 Thanks, I have taken your advice and booked it in for a spa vacation at the most highly recommended camera clinic in my locale. I just feel its a shame to have and not to use this camera at least once! Simon
iphoenix Posted August 28, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2012 Hi, Is your 250GG the one with 5 cassettes currently on Ebay Au? Looks as though it is well worth restoring.
Mainline1957 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted August 30, 2012 Yes! that's the one! I spoke to a few recommended places, none of which were interested in the job, so rather then attempt the job myself I thought I would put it on eBay. A shame as I would love to restore it just to have and use.
jaapv Posted August 30, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 30, 2012 Pity. Did you speak to Will van Manen or Malcolm Taylor? Will is currently restoring a Reflex Corelle for me that was in worse state than this one.

Whoever buys it will probably have it done, so it will be saved for posterity .
jerzy Posted August 31, 2012 Share #8 Posted August 31, 2012 Yes! that's the one! I was under impression that 250GG has long time escape mechanism, obviously missing on this one. jerzy
