pauledell Posted August 14, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 14, 2012 An excellent series in which the cars were frozen in time very well with excellent tones and sharpness. Paul
stuny Posted August 14, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 14, 2012 Rona|d - One of my favorite cars, captured wonderfully. Lake Underwood and Briggs Cunningham drove one to class victory at Sebring, after which Lake kept the 904 in his VW-Porsche dealership window which I passed as often as I could. The dealership was named Air Cooled Motors.
Rona!d Posted August 14, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted August 14, 2012 Stu, what a cool name for such a shop! My dad once drove a 906 as a "job car" when he was young, I love them.

stuny Posted August 15, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ronald - Years later when I had my first Audi (100LS, I think), it consumed oil too quickly. I took it to Air Cooled Motors, by which time Lake had added Audi to the dealership. Lake himself did the mechnaical work, taking off his expensive suit jacket, Hermes tie, and rolling up his shirtsleeves.
Rona!d Posted August 15, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted August 15, 2012 Stu, I met a guy who bought a used and raced 904 a while ago. His club friends said: "That´s worth a fortune and must be restored to perfect condition for car shows" (which is better than new of course). I asked him if the car has any mechanical issues which he denied. The pre-owner raced it and mechanically it was in very good shape. I recommended to leave the car as it is and only care for the needed work like technical inspections. He saved a LOT of money AND has fun DRIVING it. On top of that most events he visits LOVE the used look and he got invited everywhere he goes. In case he meets other 904s, his car is the one people love most
stuny Posted August 15, 2012 Share #9 Posted August 15, 2012 Rona|d - It's clear that too many cars are over-restored and under used, but fortunately, there's appreciation growing for maintained cars instead.
