tobey bilek Posted July 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the lens + E41 uv filter + Zoons clamp on shade. How can I put a B+W 486 on it in place of the E41 uv? Has any one solved this so the original shade can still be used?

lct Posted July 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2012 What's a Zoons clamp on shade?
01af Posted July 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 27, 2012 Unscrew UV filter, screw in B+W 486 filter.
tobey bilek Posted July 28, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted July 28, 2012 Original Leica shade B+W does not make an E41 486 filter at least I never see one stocked
jaapv Posted July 28, 2012 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2012 I bought a heavy-user so cheap original yellow filter for my Summarit and replaced the glass by a 486 filter glass from a B&W filter
lct Posted July 28, 2012 Share #6 Posted July 28, 2012 I have no experience with the Summarit 50/1.5 but 40.5mm filters do fit according to "Hacker" here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=991308&postcount=8 For a cheap 40.5mm UV/IR filter: 40.5mm Rocolax UV-IR cut filter The latter is effective (i own one) but has no internal thread to screw a hood or another filter onto it. brianv Posted July 28, 2012 Share #7 Posted July 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some might fit some lenses- I found that teflon tape used for plumbing fixtures was required for using the 40.5mm filter with the Summarit.

tobey bilek Posted July 30, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted July 30, 2012 I am liking the teflon tape idea best, changing the glass in a E41 second. thinking about some very thin dental floss also. Fall back is a 41-40.5 step down I found on the auction site. Just to test things out, I reversed a 39 mm and used a bit of thin tape. Unstable, but the shade does fit. A few pics inside the house confirm it has similar properties/fingerprint on digital as it had on film. What happens at 1.5 is the low frequency is retained somewhat, high frequency data is gone giving a somewhat soft focus effect. Stopped down, it looks sharp. I am going to try some outside pics today and post them if I get something with some artistic merit. Lack of rain has made things look bad.
