Nice to see an M5 hiding in there. How do you find the shooting experience compares to the CL ? Similar ?

I got the M5 recently because I liked the CL so much, having used one for 30 years for bicycle touring. Yes, the metering is similar, and operation is as fast - similar action to the shutter speed (even though oriented differently.) It is a joy to use.

Thanks for that Tom.

I had my suspicions that maybe it was a similar style, seeing as they're kind of 'peas in a pod'.

So like a CL but bigger?

I have a CL and looking for either an M5 or M6 (maybe MP at a push).

I'm afraid we've hijacked this thread a bit, but yes, similar. Meter readout is different - match-needle to a scale on the bottom of the finder (and shows shutter speed), but meter pattern is the same, but I think the M5 is more sensitive. I've had the M6 longer (since first came out), and they are both nice. The M5 isn't that much bigger, but feels larger in the hands. The M5 finder is less subject to flare-out than the M6; but M6 has 28mm lines. M5 shutter button has longer travel as the meter gradually retracts with pressure instead of snapping like the CL. Sometimes the M5 is a better buy, and Sherry and DAG can both do a good job on them.

Although the M5 came out before the CL I had heard they were working on a "compact Leica" in 1969, in response to the Rollei 35 compact.

Excellent information and very helpful thank you. The M5's looking all the more promising.

Your right, we should let them have their thread back now. Sorry Kshapero. :)

Mine, now it's a equally beautiful chrome M9P in this case.

Could you please Name the brand and Model of your hardcases...that would be very nice. I'm still looking for an Halfcase for my M9-P and perhaps I will see the perfect one on your pics :) and if I see more than one halfcase matching my taste, I can compare the prices and so on :) thanx

I have a $50 half case I bought for my M8 when I planned to keep it alongside my new M9 which I had in a Luigi. I ended up selling the M8 and didn't need 2 cases. Sold the Luigi, as it didn't fit as well and I had to keep gluing the lining because it kept lifting in different places. Horribly overpriced for the workmanship. The $50 case still looks like new after 2 years of constant use, so so much for the claim they're made worse than Luigis.
