Will There be another firmware update for X1?

If such a thing was possible, and if that's indeed what unlocked the higher ISO modes, I would vote for a retrofit of the X2's denoise algorithm in the X1's firmware. Twice.

The dev cost is already amortized by the X2, it's just a matter of swapping the previous denoise code with the new one and qualifying it. I'm sure the firmware team is rather busy with whatever new product will be announced, but this looks like a rather lightly time-consuming task. It can also be scheduled later, which would make sure this doesn't cannibalize the X2's sales (but as there are no more X1 for sales anyway, it seems like a minor concern...).

Not only would it be a nice gesture which would make X1 owners happy, it would also provide a positive element of confidence answering why getting a Leica is the good choice to the many people who are still hesitating… and the many more who will after the announcements.

Just my 2 cents… :)

Is it really that simple? How do you know? The sensor in the X2 is well known for its low noise levels so the contribution of presumed changes in the noise-reduction algorithm would probably be small.

Because developing software is my job. That's assuming there's not too much architectural changes in the embedded processor, but I see no specific reason why there would be any.

If you do have the two sensors' spec sheets, then we could compare the stated noise performance. But how much is to be attributed to the sensor and how much is to be attributed to the firmware, I don't know. I just believe the firmware could have played a role here - but this information may be incorrect. Hence the "if"s in my post… :)

We know the sensor and its performance from the Nikon D7000 and D5100, Pentax K-5, Sony Alpha580 etc. and we know it’s some improvement on the sensor in the X1 (and various other cameras by other vendors).

.....But it might be fatally optimistic to think that 'not planned' means there could be one in the future, Jaap. I suspect we may all die waiting.

Why would they spend time improving the X1 when its in their interests for the X2 to be rather better than 'somewhat better' than the X1? Personally I can't see it happening. Ever.

Does anyone think there will ever be another new firmware update for the X1? I'd sure like to see one.
Is there anything specific that you'd like to see changed or improved? I thought they did a good job with v.2 - proper manual focus scale, manual focus lock, faster autofocus. I'd happily take any further improvements, especially autofocus speed, but not at the expense of focus accuracy.
