MPerson Posted June 30, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) My postman is also a photographer - 35mm and MF - and has his own darkroom. We are always nattering about photography in general on the doorstep. This morning he delivered a can of Double-X I had ordered and started moaning about the cost of his 100ft roll of Tri-X. When I asked how much he was paying my jaw dropped. When he asked how much my 400ft can of Double-X cost (£84.95) his jaw dropped. I stopped buying Tri-X a couple of years ago in favour of Double-X but cannot believe how much it costs now. Did a quick rough and ready look at prices which include VAT but not delivery. In UK: Firstcall: £79.99 Silverprint: £110.06 Calumet: £125.20 Process Supplies: £110.30 Even a 100ft can of ORWO N75 Plus (400 asa) is only £57 including delivery. I wonder how many people are actually buying bulk Tri-X these days at those prices?
Advertisement Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Hi MPerson, Take a look here Tri-X bulk 100ft roll. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chrism Posted June 30, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2012 My freezer has several 100' rolls of Tri-X sold by Freestyle as Arista Premium at $45.99US. It would be worth paying the shipping for that difference in price! I have them sent from California up to Canada and still save a bunch of cash. fotohuis Posted June 30, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 30, 2012 Yes, the original prices of Kodak have gone up rapidly last year. OrWo Filmotec is N74+ (not N75) and can be also delivered in 400ft for about the same price then Double-X (also movie material). Cheaper B&W perforated 35mm materials in 30,5m/100ft: Fomapan 100-200-400 Efke 25-50-100 Rollei RPX100-400 Rollei Retro 80S-400S - Superpan
stack62 Posted June 30, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 30, 2012 My local camera store here in Canada has new 100 ft rolls of Tri-X for $54.95. after my pro discount it's only $49.45. All the Ilford 100ft rolls are at least $75.00 Fuji colour film is way outta wack...$18.00 to $21.00 per roll for Velvia 36 Exp. vs $6.50 per roll from Freestyle or B&H photo in the U.S.
chris_livsey Posted June 30, 2012 Share #5 Posted June 30, 2012 It has been noted elsewhere, and perhaps here if you can be bothered to search and I can't, that bulk rolls are now more expensive, pro-rata, than loaded cassettes. Counterintuitive I know but if you get 20 rolls of 36 from your bulk your cheapest listed above by the OP is £4 (and that price IS low). By the roll 7-Day shop £3-6o, no affiliation, except they keep taking money off me

Chris Here in the UK AFAIK Arista Premium has never been available by retail. Yes, there is a but coming I have found this which is said to be re-packed in house Tri-X ProFilm Tri-X Pro 135-36, ISO 400 Unfortunately it is so close to branded Tri-X price elsewhere is it worth it ? £3-79 roll (and pretty steep P&P IMHO) for those who don't click outside links. SteveYork Posted July 4, 2012 Share #11 Posted July 4, 2012 Tri-X in a 100' roll is not much of a saving over the $3.99 (US) per roll of 36 exp. from BH Photo. Right? I'm figuring about 700 exp. from 100'.

I'm figuring about 700 exp. from 100'. Right - but it gives me a purpose for the Watson bulk loader and cassettes I've been storing for 30 years... newtorf Posted July 7, 2012 Share #16 Posted July 7, 2012 I bought 3 cans of Tri-X from Amazon.com market place not long ago. $40 each. We are always nattering about photography in general on the doorstep. This morning he delivered a can of Double-X I had ordered and started moaning about the cost of his 100ft roll of Tri-X.
