rramesh Posted June 28, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted June 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) If Leica were to introduce an EVF, wouldn't it be great if they could also revive the 40mm Summicron?
Advertisement Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Hi rramesh, Take a look here 40mm lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted June 28, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted June 28, 2012 With three 35mm and five 50mm lenses in the Leica stable i would not hold my breath.
lars_bergquist Posted June 28, 2012 Share #3  Posted June 28, 2012 They might also revive the 180mm Apo-Telyt 1:3.4. And introduce a 105mm lens. And a real macro lens. You name it.  But I agree that true standard lenses – lenses whose focal length are close to the diagonal of the film or sensor format – are very useable. Like a 10.5cm lens on a 6x9cm camera. Such a lens on a 35mm camera would be about 43mm. I have happy memories of the 40mm Tessar on a Rollei 35 I used with much pleasure as late as in 2002.  The old man from the Age of Photography
algrove Posted June 29, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted June 29, 2012 OK, I'm ready for an APO 40mm Summicron ASPH.
Deeman Posted June 29, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted June 29, 2012 40mm lenses actually fit the field of view of the 35mm framelines better than 35mm lenses! I use the Voigtlander f1.4/40mm SC as standard lens on my M9 and I wouldn't swap it for anything. It is an easy job to modify the tab so that it brings up the 35mm frame. And the image quality is excellent. Â Ivan

Just to avoid possible confusions, it is true at medium to long distance on M8 & M9 (R-D1 as well), but not on the M8.2.

peter_n Posted June 29, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted June 29, 2012 I like the 40mm as a walk-round lens too. I had a Canonet for a few years and it had an excellent f1.8 40mm lens. Now I'm using a 28mm on a NEX-7. It's a wee bit over but it's nice to have that focal length back.
sksaito Posted June 30, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted June 30, 2012 I love 40mm. I have the 40mm Summicron and I use it on my M9 and M3. On the M3, I use the entire viewfinder outside the bright 50mm frameline for the 40mm. I also have a Bessa R3 for my voigtlander 40mm SC 1.4.
xalo Posted June 30, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted June 30, 2012 While waiting for the return of my CLE from repair, I will be starting to set funds aside for the aforementioned APO 40mm ASPH. Â But I hope Leica will at least make it f/1,4 or a new Noctilux, for no less than EUR 10k. The frameline update to go with could be a nice must-have for the MM-P*. Count another EUR 1,5k. Â Until that happens, I will continue using my beaten Minilux with it's sweet Summarit 40. And hope my CLE returns soon to meet with the 40 Rokkor-C again.
