Magnum Image Posted June 4, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted June 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Where do you think the used price of the M9 will fall to once the M10 is announced in September? Â Where do you think it will bottom out after a year or so of the M10 being in production? Â And finally where do you think the price of the M8 will end up? Advertisement Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Hi Magnum Image, Take a look here M9 Price After M10 Announced. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ellie Posted June 4, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted June 4, 2012 One quote I read from Leica (Dr K.) was that the M9 could be sold in parallel to a new "M10", it could make sense if it has different technology than the M9 and the price is much higher. The price of the M9 would probably stay the same in this case. Â .
jaapv Posted June 4, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted June 4, 2012 The M8 will remain stable. The M9, impossible to say as long as the M10 is not announced yet, nor its price, but I find it hard to imagine a good example fetching less than 4000-4500 Euro the coming years. There may be one or two bargains in the rush as the M10 hits the shelves, but few and far between.
rramesh Posted June 4, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted June 4, 2012 The M9 will be expensive and the M10 will be very expensive.
mjh Posted June 4, 2012 Share #5  Posted June 4, 2012 Where do you think the used price of the M9 will fall to once the M10 is announced in September? Given that we don’t know when the M10 will be released and what its specs and price tag will be, this is impossible to say.
Magnum Image Posted June 4, 2012 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 4, 2012 I didn't mean to sound so certain of the release this year but it just seems like the time is right. An educated guess can still be given though. I was thinking 5,000-5,500 USD.
StephenPatterson Posted June 4, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted June 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) A friend of mine just bought a used, mint condition M9 grey paint with less than 5000 shutter actuations from an authorized Leica dealer for $4400. I think M8s and M8.2s will be in the $2K-$3K range and M9s and M9-Ps in the $4.5K-$6K range. All USD.
IWC Doppel Posted June 4, 2012 Share #8  Posted June 4, 2012 If you look at M8 prices over time, they have dropped to circa 50% of new, I think the M10 will be announced in September and will be £7,000+  M9's 2010 vintage, tidy sub 10k actuations will be £2.5-3k I suspect, M8's sticking at £1,200+ by. M9-P's nearer to just under £4k by spring 2013  Just a guess mind
Magnum Image Posted June 4, 2012 Author Share #9 Â Posted June 4, 2012 A friend of mine just bought a used, mint condition M9 grey paint with less than 5000 shutter actuations from an authorized Leica dealer for $4400. Â I'd buy one at that price but the last 6 months has seen such a huge jump in sensor quality the M8&M9 seem closer then once thought. It's said of every incarnation but the M10 seems like the camera that will finally achieve film status.

It's said of every incarnation but the M10 seems like the camera that will finally achieve film status.  Perhaps. I have not found myself wanting with my M9-Ps and will hold off upgrading one of them for quite some time. Besides the obvious delays that will occur after an M10 is officially announced there remains the strong possibility of teething problems with a new sensor, firmware, EVF, warp drive, nuclear core, etc., so I will let the dust settle and just keep making images... Ecaton Posted June 4, 2012 Share #11  Posted June 4, 2012 I expect used M9 prices to bottom out in the USD 4-5K range and stay there for years to come. Thus selling now is not a good timing as one will get lots of additional mileage from the trusted M9 with marginal depreciation of its market value. I sold my 1st generation M8 for USD 2k when I got my M9 in January 2010. Had I kept it as backup, it would still be worth USD 2K 2 ½ years later. Peter H Posted June 4, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted June 4, 2012 Of course M9 prices could rise after production ceases and supply halts, especially if the M10 is not readily and easily available. Â It also depends on what the M10 is, how much it costs and a number of other unknowns. Â Selling now for price reasons is not a wise move unless you enjoy high-risk gambles. wda Posted June 4, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted June 4, 2012 Surely all of this is wild speculation? Much can happen in the world before the next M-model is announced.

Are you planning on buying as an investment?  Personally I have no particular interest in what my M9-P's or M8's prices will be after x months providing that they continue to function properly and Leica will repair them if needed.  Pete. hifigraz Posted June 4, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted June 4, 2012 Expect the m9-p to stay where it is. The m9 will dissapear and the m10 will be on top of the mm in the same way the mm is on top of the m9-p .... Â Just my 5 cent

JohnEe Posted June 6, 2012 Share #17 Â Posted June 6, 2012 Fortunately, I am an experienced economist with many years experience from forecasting macroeconomics, asset prices etc. This should be a cakewalk, with only three assets and hardly any substitutes. So, lets see... The M9.. and the M8.. ahm.. and the M.. 10. Yes, yes... So. Ermm.. USD or EUR? hm.. let's... hm. I'll be back.

Was that before . . . or after May 10th - certainly there were some deals to be had whilst people were still expecting an M10 announcement on May 10th.  Those prices sound about right to me as well. all the best
LotharZhou Posted June 6, 2012 Share #19 Â Posted June 6, 2012 My dealer told me today the standard M9 production will cease soon, and the M10 just a few months away.
LotharZhou Posted June 6, 2012 Share #20  Posted June 6, 2012 Yeah, that's what it's going to be, a dealer told me exactly the same, M9 prodction will cease soon.  Expect the m9-p to stay where it is.
