wstotler Posted June 2, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) My chrome M8s have cosmetically aged beautifully--that is to say not much at all. They've not brassed at the edges. Apart from some scratches (minor on one M8's top plate), IMO they look great. No scratched screens, etc. If anything, they're resisting that "well used look" too well. I'd love to see how other forum users' M8s are wearing. Anyone care to share? Cheers! Advertisement Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Hi wstotler, Take a look here Brassing, age, wear samples. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted June 3, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 3, 2012 Chrome cameras don't usually show brassing, unless exceptionally worn, or damaged. My lllf has a little brassing on the edge of the slow speed dial. Other than that it's perfect as is the M2. If you want brassing buy a black paint camera. I don't get it myself. Guest Ming Rider Posted June 3, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2012 My Chrome M8 is showing some brass on the edge of the top plate . . . but that's because a chunk is missing from when I dropped it

Guest Ming Rider Posted June 3, 2012 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2012 Pictures of the brassing ? Glad to oblige, though I'm not sure if the brassing on the 'Thumbie' counts as well? I think this is probably the first chrome M8 in history to show some brassing? Welcome, dear visitor! tobey bilek Posted June 4, 2012 Share #6 Posted June 4, 2012 It will take eons to brass a chrome Leica. A friend has an M3 with a million exposures of wedding work based on how many rolls per wedding, how many weddings per week, how many years he did it. Three kids thru an expensive private school all paid for by weddings as a side job. He bought 100 foot rolls by the case back in the day. It has some minor scuffs, light scratches, but the corners look as new. Wear happens from sliding the camera into bags and the corners take the abuse. Black paint shows wear if that is your desire. Old Chrome bodies will never brass. Just check winogrand's camera and you can hardly see any. However, the newer Chrome Leicas, especially Black chrome on the M7 versus the one on the M4-P for example, wears quite fast. It won't show brass but it quickly becomes silvery in color. LotharZhou Posted June 6, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 6, 2012 After 4 years my chrome M8 went to every possible place with me, without even a tiny scratch, not to mention brassing. Sometime I wonder when I can see brassing on my M8.

WestMichigan Posted June 24, 2012 Share #11 Posted June 24, 2012 ShiroKuro, I like the brassing on your M8.2, as well. Quite lovely. My black M8 is definitely showing wear marks, but not the golden hue of brass I'm afraid. IIRC the materials and coverings don't allow it with my generation of camera. epand56 Posted July 4, 2012 Share #12 Posted July 4, 2012 My almost five yo M8 shows no signs of wear at all. In spite of being used very much, it really looks like new (well, except some dust easily removable)
jip Posted January 14, 2013 Share #13 Posted January 14, 2013 My M9-P is only a year old and is brassed quite well, not bad looking though...
Marac Posted January 19, 2013 Share #14 Posted January 19, 2013 Mine looks like it has been through 2 world wars and although it is seen as sacrilege I have done it all myself with wire wool and a dremel, hahaha. The camera still works faultlessly of cause & I personally really enjoy the trampish look to it. I guess you want to see a pic so I'v included one but it dont really show the golden glow it has. earleygallery Posted January 19, 2013 Share #15 Posted January 19, 2013 I wonder if any of us buy a new car and take to it with a hammer and key to add some 'ageing' to it? Odd.
