With the availability of adapters for using of R lenses on Nikon or other DSLRs, I would be interested to know what the general consensus is regarding the better examples of the R lenses vs. well regarded similar focal lengths from Nikon, Zeiss etc?

R lenses considered the best or amongst the best are the last versions of 19/2.8, 28/2.8 (not for me), 35/1.4, 35/2, 50/1.4, 50/2, 60/2.8, 80/1.4, 90/2.8, 90/2, 100/2.8, 135/2.8 (for me), 180/3.4, 180/2.8, 180/2, 280/4. I have no experience with wider and longer ones sorry.

I love them and I use it on Nikon DSLRs and Leica R cameras. My favs which I use regularly are 50/2, 80/1.4, 90/2, 90/2.8, 100/2.8 APO, 180/2.8 APO and 280/4 APO. The APO 1.4x and 2x extenders are superb too. I want to get a 90/2 APO :D.

You can't go wrong with the 50/1.4 or the 60/2.8 macro. I do not have first hand experience with these two lenses though.

Add the 15/2.8 to the list - an incredibly good ultra wide angle.

I leitaxed the APO R converter and mount my unconverted R lenses on it and use it on my Nikons.

I have NOT converted my APO R lenses since I almost destroyed my 100/2.8 APO during the process. Some of them are easy to convert but some are not easy. I believe it was my overconfidence that almost destroyed it :D
