I used to work with the ovf on my old x1, but I find the evf on my x2 much better.

John

could you please tell why you think that an evf on the x2 is much better?

i would like to try both but unfortunately there isn't a store that stocks leica here.:(..i would have to buy online which is why I'm trying to figure out which is the best option for me.

Thanks again! and sorry for my ignorance...you might have guessed by now...I'm a newbie!

the evf allows you to vary the angle of image viewing whilst showing focus point, shutter speed, aperture, etc., giving you more control on image framing when the camera is at different heights other than eye level. the ovf is fixed & looks in one direction only. sometimes the monitor is difficult to read clearly in direct sunlight so all the information becomes much clearer in the evf. it also allows you to adjust the dioptre for your eyesight if you wear glasses..

If Leica did not offer and evf, there would be complaints. If Leica made the evf in Germany, it would cost $1,000.00 and there would be complaints. Leica is offering offering an evf built by Epson for Olympus and Leica. There are complaints, because the Olympus version is far less expensive than the Leica version and it is not a Leica designed product.

I have ordered the X2 and the Leica EVF, and I do not care who or where the evf was designed or made, and the cost is normal for Leica.

SOS for forums...even on the Mercedes Benz Club forum, there has always been griping about where Mercedes vehicles were assembled, where parts came from, cost, electronics, etc. God forbid that people buy a Mercedes Benz assembled in Alabama or a third world country...BTDT...got rather old to listen to years ago.:p What really did it for me on that forum was the endless discussion about whether a car made in Germany was better than the one made in a different Mercedes Benz factory in another country...

You've not read the 'Leica made in Germany v Leica made in Canada/Portugal' threads here then!

Hi John

How do you find using the Oly evf on tour X2? We still haven't received the X2 in the US...

Today was my first X2 streetshooting in the oldest city of Germany: TRIER

I still have to process the pics in LR3 + Silvereffex, but I can assure you that I was happy to have the OLY EVF with me today.

It was partly cloudy and partly sunny, but nearly impossible to shoot without the EVF!

Thats great!

I just pre ordered the X2 here in the US and hope they get them soon. I ordered the chrome one and was wondering which EVF will look better out of the 2 oly's. Black or silver? A silver evf may be available to me for sale soon but i'm not sure if the shade of chrome will match the x2 chrome?

No matter if it says Olympus or Leica... Sorry but the combo is horrible, they don´t even bother in design something new, more ad-hoc to the camera minimalistic approach.

I would like to know if there is a OVF with a diopter adjustment. I know the EVF has this option but it doesn't look like the OVF has it. If it doesn't - which other VF would you recommend? One more other question - can the X2 take only DNG pictures or does it take DNG and JPG at the same time? Is there an option for only taking DNG pictures so I dont overload my SD card?

Thank you from Chicago Il USA

Don't worry about the lack of diopter adjustment on the OVF. It is so bright and clear that you don't need it (I am shortsighted and astigmatic). Best viewfinder I've ever used.

i posted this on another thread but here is my experience so far in more detail. I stopped by a camera shop and compared the leica OVF on an X1 and a Panasonic EVF mounted on a Lumix, same EVF as the OLY. What I liked most about the EVF was its ability to flip up. This allowed me to hold my arms and camera close to the chest, very steady and secure while looking down into it, I found this to be a very comfortable stance for shooting and gave me a nice angle. there is a diopter adjustment wheel underneath the viewing element which made it a breeze to adjust, nice touch i thought. anyway, what bugged me about it was the "TV" image of my subject, felt removed, this is obviously a personal thing. But i noticed that i spent more time looking into the EVF than the OVF, reading numbers etc, whereas just holding up the OVF to my eye and shooting felt more like the way I like to work. Anyhoo, best idea is to just go try them because it really is a personal choice. I bought the Leica OVF, is was a return and was discounted, i find myself walking around just looking at things through it without the camera, lol, so you may want to take what I say with a grain of salt.
