adan Posted August 17, 2012 Share #181 Â Posted August 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hmmmm - 9/17 (or 17/9 for some) - must be introducing the M9.17 (Leica apparently didn't have time to complete a full M9.2). My wife's birthday, in any event. I wonder what she'll get m.....I mean, what I'll get her....? Â

andyedward Posted August 17, 2012 Share #182  Posted August 17, 2012 I'd rather spend the £7K the M10 will cost on travelling with the equipment I already have
dickgrafixstop Posted August 20, 2012 Share #183 Â Posted August 20, 2012 whatever it is, the product it replaces was cheaper. whatever it is, somebody here with no intention to ever buy it will find fault with the design choices. whatever it is, others will buy it just to have it and never use it to it's full potential. Â and the panasonic version will be just as good at 1/3 the price
IWC Doppel Posted August 20, 2012 Author Share #184 Â Posted August 20, 2012 If Panasonic come out with a FF rangefinder at Photokina I'd be more than a little surprised. This is one reason why I don't think the M10 will be CMOS as we know it. I would not at a be surprised if it is something very different. With the interest in rangefinders I'd want a strong patent and sufficient sustainable differentiation from the 4/3 wanna be's
FlorianM Posted August 20, 2012 Share #185 Â Posted August 20, 2012 Well, the M3 was hardly a surprise. Two decades earlier... Â Â Â Â Â For the Leica-youngsters among us, what is (was?) this?

rosuna Posted August 25, 2012 Share #188 Â Posted August 25, 2012 Two cameras, two prices, one mount, one system. Â We will see a M camera with electronic viewfinder, at a lower price than the classical M with optical viewfinder.

Guest snowboarder Posted August 26, 2012 Share #191  Posted August 26, 2012 Two cameras, two prices, one mount, one system. We will see a M camera with electronic viewfinder, at a lower price than the classical M with optical viewfinder.  I hope you're right! I hope the electronic M will be full frame though, it would really be quite pointless if it's a crop camera. Would be extremely hard for Leica to charge a few thousand $ for it when NEX 5 is $500... If it's a FF, I'm the first in line. I don't need and don't want a rangefinder, I need a modern FF camera for my M glass.

After following all the discussions here in the forum, about what kind of camera would be true to the spirit of the M line, it probably is the best to have 2 different M models - one keeping the optical viewfinder and mostly hiding the electronic part from the user as the more traditional and expensive model, and one which completely goes forward, is live view only and potentially significantly cheaper as the precision viewfinder is a huge cost factor (and the main reason for a services visit). Furthermore, there would be more freedom in the design of such an M-Electronic, allowing for a smaller camera (more looking like the X2). But indeed, it would have to be FF to be really interesting - there are enough crop cameras from Sony and others already. Â Peter
lct Posted August 26, 2012 Share #193 Â Posted August 26, 2012 Why buying an M if cheaper FF cams are available at Leica's? I would not hold my breath on that. FF M, yes. APS EVIL, yes. FF EVIL, no. YMMV.
tobey bilek Posted August 26, 2012 Share #194 Â Posted August 26, 2012 M10 with CMOS for better ISO at expense of Leica colors. Â Consumer grade ++ intro Leica. lct Posted August 26, 2012 Share #198 Â Posted August 26, 2012 Two FF cameras? Leica would have two of them already with the MM and the M10, the latter becoming an EVIL with its EVF on, and even three FF cams with the "ME" according to some rumors. This has no common sense IMHO.

If the M9 was going to be replaced by an M10 with a CMOS sensor and live-view on the one hand and a kind of ‘classic’ M (the rumoured ME) on the other, wouldn’t that make sense? I could see a market for all three models.
