And this....

1. Speculation will be rife and increasingly fantastical. Endless threads will be started on almost the same subject

2. Stuff will be released. It will be beautifully made and pricey

3. Some people will be disappointed and demand apologies

4. Insecure early adopters will place orders first and rationalise later

Regards,

Bill

Cheers,

JB

Hi Bill,

history repeats itself.

my Leica dealer agrees with me that it maybe would be better if Leica for the moment would concentrate on producing and delivering products from the existing range instead of inventing new products that you also do not get if you order them

Reported currently aiming to about double daily lens production with another doubling to follow.

A new (or expanded?) plant in Portugal and the move back to Wetzlar (the new Leitz Park) now underway again.

I do not think it has been mentioned up to now. In Berlin there was a special room dedicated to the new plant in Portugal.

Sorry but... I didn't know Leica was building a new plant in Portugal !!!

What is the expected date for inauguration?

These two new factories, and the capital needed to fund them, we're two of the drivers of Dr. K's selling a significant minority share to a private equity firm.

From David Farkas (Dale Photo & Digital)

"That being said, the sign was actually pointing to a side room where there was an architectural model of Leica’s new manufacturing facility in Vila nova de Famalicão, Portugal, which Kaufmann told me will be completed later this year. Hopefully this will make a positive impact on product availability, although I wouldn’t expect lens deliveries to increase dramatically until the new Wetzlar plant opens as almost all optical manufacture is in Germany."

I've read elsewhere 'ready for production in October this year' but I can't find the source I'm afraid.

Any chance of a wide angle summarit? Really like my 35 & 75mm but do with something a tad wider on the M8.2

There is probably some technical reason why this cant be achieved, ah well sit back and hope.

- M10 with Sony CMOS sensor. 24mp or 36mp. All new electronics with live view and HD video capture. Crystal ball is getting a little hazy,.... is that Magnum inspired weatersealing? An extended battery pack? Do you really need those features on a golf course?

- S3 because the sensor is no longer available? Maybe an upgrade program for S2 -> S3?

- A model between the X2 and M series. Made in Portugal?

- Appearances by your favorite celebrities, lots of champagne, probably no chamber music this time.

Why would the sensor cease to be available? Leica may decide they need a higher resolution sensor or whatever, but as long as they need the existing sensor it will continue to be manufactured (Leica is the only customer for this particular sensor anyway).
