ALD Posted May 18, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the ultimate set up is to have the M9-M buying it ASAP and shooting it to learn about light in BW photography. This will improve ones photography in general. Then when the M10 is released in the fall (hopefully) then it will be a must have for its color depth and range and high resolution. In fact somebody once said if you want to learn about light in photography shoot only in B&W for a year. The time has come to buy the M9M, the time has come to sell the M9 color while a good price of between $4000-$5000 can still be obtained before the majority dumps the M9 at release for the M10. Â I still stand by my earlier predictions that the M10 will be a truly amazing camera, it will be the one that will give Leica massive sales at least doubling the M9. pico Posted May 18, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted May 18, 2012 I will not take you seriously, ALD, until you post a scan of your M9m receipt. Talk is easy. This is not fantasy football.
IWC Doppel Posted May 18, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted May 18, 2012 I am going to wait and when my M9-P compromises my photography skills until I buy an M10. The trouble is Leica will be on to the M14 by then......

I still stand by my earlier predictions that the M10 will be a truly amazing camera...  1. If your prediction is correct and a majority of M9 owners will dump their cameras in favor of the M10 then I am firmly in the minority.  2. I believe the M9 is a truly amazing camera, and I have yet to be limited in it's ability to express my photographic vision.
Paul Verrips Posted May 18, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted May 18, 2012 If adjust your settings on the M9 to DNG+JPEG & black&white, you can start now. don't wait for the M10.

Curiosity only really, 35" Mac anyone ?

Curiosity only really, 35" Mac anyone ?  I don't shoot JPEGs, even basic, as they substantially slow the write speed, taking longer to clear the buffer, but if I could shoot DNG only with a B&W preview that would be wonderful. jaapv Posted May 18, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted May 18, 2012 That would slow the camera down to DNG plus JPG as it would have to create the B&W image.

No rangefinder camera may have massive sales. They are expensive cameras to produce, and manual focus cameras with many limitations.

Well, contrary to your view, I am considering buying another M9 soon to complement my existing one. Just waiting to see if there is a price drop. I can't seriously see how an M10 can improve on the M9, at least for me. Everything you mention is already in the M9.  The time has come to buy the M9M, the time has come to sell the M9 color while a good price of between $4000-$5000 can still be obtained before the majority dumps the M9 at release for the M10. And this is exactly what the marketing department at Leica wants.  2. What really will improve your photography is shooting a mechanical camera, like an M2 or M3, but then you would have to use that evil stuff called film. wattsy Posted May 18, 2012 Share #14  Posted May 18, 2012 What improves most photography is using your eyes and brain. The gear comes much further down the list - especially if you already have a perfectly decent camera like an M9.
bpalme Posted May 18, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted May 18, 2012 I predict a slump in M9 prices for the M 10 release. Then I think the price will climb back up a bit after the initial gotta have the newest camera people settle in with their M 10. I think the price difference will be to great for most to dump M9 for M 10. I'm already losing thousands and then buy an M 10 to watch fall 1k immediately. I'll just stick with the M9. I was actually pretty happy with the M8
Paul Verrips Posted May 18, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted May 18, 2012 The only thing i would appreciate is better high iso, although is like the actual iso/noise output, because it challenges me to make a good lowlight photo under the given circumstances. Jaybob Posted May 18, 2012 Share #17 Â Posted May 18, 2012 Not to pile on, but... Â "Learning about light" and "improving one's photography in general" or shooting in "B&W for a year" is best done in a intro to photography class with a manual starter camera and a 50mm lens, like a K1000 or an FM (or an M if you have one...) and tri-x. Not an M monochrome. That's like saying buying a Jaguar or BMW will make you a better driver. It just makes you more of a poser.
Double Negative Posted May 18, 2012 Share #18 Â Posted May 18, 2012 Absolutely none of this is required. Â Get an M3, an old Cron and a couple of rolls of Tri-X. Or go digital. Heck, use your phone for all it matters. Â If you suck, even the M11 won't help.

I was shooting yesterday with 1600 . Saw the capture in Lightroom 4 and was amazed by the good looking grain. So I'am not really waiting for the M10. Paul Verrips Posted May 18, 2012 Share #20  Posted May 18, 2012 Good meterimg and using an expodisk can make real diffence pushing your M9 to higher ISO. It's maybe more a challenge than using a D3/D700 but using a Leica M is a rather challenging camera, that's why i love it so much.
