Right, and as in the NEX viewfinders, amplification of light levels when using stopped down apertures.

I've been spending a happy couple of days shooting with my R lenses on an Olympus OMD.

Of course, there's the 2x crop factor, but it's roundabouts and swings.

 

Stop down metering is not required - set the aperture as you want, and then focus on the screen/EVF - it works well - focus peaking is better, zooming in is horrid, but I've been pretty successful just focusing.

 

Assuming an M10 had live view . . or an EVF - then the same is true - there really are very few limitations, certainly (IMHO) it's a great deal easier than using on an optical viewfinder where your really do have to stop down for the metering.

 

So, the answer is Jaap's answer - read between the lines - an M10 with a CMOS sensor and live view would be a perfect vehicle for M lenses - read Mr Puts and everyone else, the CMOS M10 with live view appears to be favourite.

I have been looking into the OMD, Jono on your advice. In fact, I am in the process of hammering out a deal with my dealer to get an OMD for use this year and sell it back at a good price for an M10 when it appears. Despite being 4/3rds, the files look quite good, much better than I get from the Digiilux3, which -probably foolishly- was my yardstick for the system up to now.

I have enjoyed using the G1 with longer leica lenses, and the new sensor in the OMD should be (even) better. Focus assist would make life easier (quicker) so the Ricoh gxr is interesting, although I thought the evf on that was not so good as the G1 or the Nex7, I haven't managed a look through on omd yet.

I still like the idea of a small motor in the adapter to stop the R lens down though rather than fully manual aperture control, and I have seen a Novoflex Nikon to M4/3 adaptor with a ring built in to effectively give a preset operation.

If you want to chance it, buy a used DMR for your R8 or (better still) R9.

The files are superb out of camera (DNG) I never sharpen them, they are lush.

Using my second hand R9 and s/h DMR (I bought them as a set) and acquiring a s/h second battery with my existing ROM 35-70 f4 and 50 Summicron, impressed me so much I bought a 90 Apo Asph Summicron and Apo 2x converter.

Now all I need to do is find out where Doug (wildlightphoto) shoots!

Read between the lines

There has been many suggestions that the 'R-solution' is with

another vendor.

Sonys FF flagship is also much delayed, presumably due

to incorporation of mirrorless EVF technology, and perhaps

sensor problems. But should incorporate AF and image-stabilization in-house.

Just add a Novoflex adapter to R-lenses.
