StephenPatterson Posted May 11, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tonight Leica has shown us what they have in mind for the M10. It will have an add on EVF similar to this, while retaining the optical rangefinder. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hi StephenPatterson, Take a look here M10 EVF. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IkarusJohn Posted May 11, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2012 It's not very pretty is it?
rramesh Posted May 11, 2012 Share #3 Posted May 11, 2012 Without the logo it could be mistaken for an Olympus VF-2. Hope it has a good locking mechanism unlike the Olympus. Now on an M10, wouldn't it need live view and a complete electronics redesign?

lars_bergquist Posted May 11, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 11, 2012 Now on an M10, wouldn't it need live view and a complete electronics redesign? Yes indeed. It means a CMOS sensor, to begin with. Trying to run a 24x36mm CCD sensor continuously would drain the battery before you had time to say, oops. Also, it would fry your nose. 250swb Posted May 11, 2012 Share #7 Posted May 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Without the logo it could be mistaken for an Olympus VF-2. Hope it has a good locking mechanism unlike the Olympus. Now on an M10, wouldn't it need live view and a complete electronics redesign? It apprarently is the Olympus VF-2 in all but name. Over on one of the m4/3 forum's it has already been tried on the Olympus E-M5 by a reviewer and it plugs in and works! Sounds like you could save some money if you don't mind it saying Olympus on the front. But there is also a rumour that it is Epson who make and badge these EVF's for Panasonic, Olympus and Leica, hence the compatability. Steve
jaapv Posted May 11, 2012 Share #8 Posted May 11, 2012 Oh dear, do I hear NDA’s creaking... ? If this were true for the M10 I cannot avoid getting one... Btw, remind me why I am not getting an M9M, albeit very, very reluctantly. Two cameras in one year would get me banned to the garden shed forever... MarkP Posted May 11, 2012 Share #9 Posted May 11, 2012 I think it's outrageous that Leica didn't put an internal optical viewfinder into the X2- a fixed focal length camera.
StephenPatterson Posted May 11, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted May 11, 2012 I think it's outrageous that Leica didn't put an internal optical viewfinder into the X2- a fixed focal length camera. I can only imagine what Leica dealer's reaction is to the "new" X2. Something along the lines of "Seriously, we haven't even unloaded all of our X1 inventory and now you expect us to compete against Fuji, Olympus, Sony & Nikon with this???". swamiji Posted May 11, 2012 Share #11 Posted May 11, 2012 This M10 concept is really scary, and considering the price of the new 50mm cron, it could be $12k. I had better get my MM fast, at least it's less expensive than a M9-P... For now

marknorton Posted May 11, 2012 Share #15 Posted May 11, 2012 Ugly, ugly, ugly. Leica has to kick the habit of these add-on carbuncles. Why not build it all in to the camera and be done with it?
Paul J Posted May 11, 2012 Share #16 Posted May 11, 2012 Personally, I like it. It has a militaryesque function over form. Iwould rather it didn't have the word Leica engraved for all to see though I would personally prefer the M10 to have a solution like this as I would only want to use it rarely therefore having a more minimal camera most of the time. mjh Posted May 11, 2012 Share #17 Posted May 11, 2012 Why not build it all in to the camera and be done with it? To keep it smaller I suppose. Yes, the add-on solution is kind of ugly, but it means you have a smaller camera as long as you can do without a viewfinder.
StephenPatterson Posted May 11, 2012 Author Share #18 Posted May 11, 2012 .. it means you have a smaller camera as long as you can do without a viewfinder. Yes, viewfinders are highly overrated.
