luigi bertolotti Posted May 11, 2012 Share #341 Posted May 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Raw files will always be more flexible but as far as resolution is concerned, the JPEGs from the M Monochrom already deliver the goods (unlike those of the M9). Michael, just a question to you that, I saw, had the M9-M in your hands for some time : how is the RAW file from it ? I mean, is it a std. 8-bit - 256 gray tones ? Maybe has been written somewhere, but I didn't notice it.

Guest Posted May 11, 2012 Share #343 Posted May 11, 2012 Looks to me like the Berlin event was a success: David beats Goliath in terms of business figures, having fun and being also technically ahead of the Goliath-Canikons, the 2/50A showing the way for the years to come, accepting Adobe efforts. And the M9-M proving the superiority of a free entrepreneur with vision. Nobody else dared that and we should send our best wishes. Everybody there looks like a winner, including Jaap with his Hermès M9-P , visible for us all during the last months, well ahead of the big budget Hermès team . Congratulations to your feats, guys! The more M-Leicas there are around the better . Bringing it back to Schraubleica dimensions and design someday would be nice. It is heartwarming to see: "Leistung (und Geist!) lohnt sich." Ted99 Posted May 12, 2012 Share #344 Posted May 12, 2012 Hello! I use the M8 , to the 50 mm/2,0 I have á B&W IR filter. Checked the B&W 39 UV IR CUT filter at B&W website. Find out that the filter have the wavelength limitation at 700 micrometer. The M9M have limited it to 700 micrometer in "original". So I thinking if the M9M is the same as M8 with IR filter mounted at the lens??? Any more thoughts ? /Ted

TonyJ Posted May 13, 2012 Share #349 Posted May 13, 2012 I hope Hermes will release a normal production bag for the Digital Ms....same as the Limited Edition bag.... Not going to happen. If they do, then the "Limited Edition" bag would no longer bar limited edition.
bull40 Posted May 14, 2012 Share #350 Posted May 14, 2012 Hello all, Well, I have to say that I am more than just a little disappointed with the reactions of all the "nattering nabobs of negativism." Not surprised, mind you, I've seen it all too often before. Believe me, as a faithful R user since 1985, I have every reason to be frustrated with some of the decisions of Leica. I also understand, though, that the R line was just not successful enough for Leica to continue to dedicate resources and production space to. It seems everytime Leica has a product announcement, everyone and their brother begins dreaming up their perfect solution and then arguing about its merits. As soon as Leica finally launches the new product, and it's not exactly as one had envisioned, it's time to declare Leica dead and bereft of vision and time to throw their three Noctis in the waste bin. Seriously? Come in off of the ledge, friends! We need to remember that this is a preview of things to come, both at Photokina in a few months, and further down the road. Leica is doing an excellent job of the near impossible task of trying to please the newer technology oriented consumers with those that are so stuck in the past, that any M is an abomination because of that new-fangled bayonet mount. Leica has the responsibility to design and produce products that are worthy of their vaulted history and reputation and are saleable at a good profit. They are doing that. If you don't care for the M Monochrom, don't buy one. If I had not made the decision to drop digital imaging after four years and return to film, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Most photographers have more than one body in their kits. Obviously, if you can't have two or more, buy the M9 or M9P. But don't damn Leica to hell for offering an option that will appeal to many shooters just because it doesn't appeal to you. The new 50 AA 'cron is stunning. Unfortunately, so is the price. I would love to have one, but I personally won't pay quite that much for a lens. I'm still just as much in love with my older 'cron as I was last week. Those who appreciate and can afford the new one, congratulations! I look forward to seeing your image posts. As far as the Hermes editions, they are purely a moneymaker and not my cup of tea. It's not like Leica spent years in R&D on it, and it was basically a prototype design from the M9 Tianium project. For collectors with deep pockets, enjoy! The X2 was a pleasant surprise for me. It addresses the issues that concerned me most about the X1, mostly in the increase in AF speed. I will be buying one in a few months for a drag-everywhere compact. I've never used an EVF that I liked, but I will try this one and if it doesn't meet my needs, I'll happily use the traditional optical viewfinder. I do give them credit for the reference to the old Visoflex in both name and styling cues. Overall, it was a good show, some great new products debuted, and life goes on. I look forward, as always, to see what comes next, and in the meantime I will continue to scour the used adverts to pick up the R series bits and pieces that I want, and happily go about my business, shooting film with my favorite cameras and lenses as long as film remains a viable option. Well, that and my new X2 for snaps. Cheers!
ShootTokyo Posted May 14, 2012 Share #351 Posted May 14, 2012 'If you don't like it don't buy it' that is a great way to put it. I went to the launch event "Das Wesentliche in Tokyo @ Leica Ginza" in Tokyo last night and got a couple of chances to shoot the new Cron and the Monocrom and both are fantastic in my opinion... dkCambridgeshire Posted May 14, 2012 Share #352 Posted May 14, 2012 The aftermath hysteria and energy going into this thread will dissolve into its own hot air eventually ... then maybe we can all take a few deep breaths and relax ... and be thankful for what we actually have ... rather than showing such disappointment about rumourmongers' false expectations. Que sera sera. dunk
