andalus Posted May 2, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 2, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) So, a few days ago I sold my mint silver 28 Summicron, to fund an upcoming D800E. Sent it off the NYC to the buyer, who paid several hundred dollars over current new retail price for this lens. I guess I was pleased, but missed the lens. After buyer gets it, he sent me a photo of the lens barrel and with a red pen has circled a "scratch" above the serial number. He wants to send it back and me to refund him. Says a "collectible" has to be utterly perfect. I can see the "scratch" and I had not seen it before. So today I get my beloved silver 28 back. I take it out of the leather case and find the "scratch". I rub my finger over it, and immediately it is GONE. (Just a tiny piece of crud on the lens barrel above a serial number.) Â I guess the byre "collector" is not so careful after all?

michali Posted May 2, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted May 2, 2012 More often than not, these things happen for a very good reason, hold on to your lens!
andalus Posted May 2, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted May 2, 2012 I agree with you. Leica isn't making the silver 28 any longer, for one thing, and as you know, it's a fine lens, maybe one of the best.
farnz Posted May 3, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted May 3, 2012 Sounds suspiciously like buyer's remorse to me and any excuse to return the lens for a refund. Â In this instance I think you got lucky because you get to keep your lens. Â Pete.

menos I M6 Posted May 3, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted May 3, 2012 You are such a lucky man! Â Things don't happen by coincidence - keep the 28 now. Â Time, to send the "buyer" some flowers or a big cake ;-)
Peter H Posted May 3, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted May 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now you've safely got the lens back, I hope you've pointed out to him that the scratch blew away. And that the price has just gone up!
MarkP Posted May 3, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted May 3, 2012 All's well that ends well. Â The lesson, as so often quoted in the Forum, is: never sell a Leica lens unless except to feed your starving children...and even then perhaps...

chrism Posted May 3, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted May 3, 2012 You rubbed your thumb on a Leica lens? I guess that makes it automatically something less than collectible! Â Chris God forbid you let any photons sully the interior...
jaques Posted May 4, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted May 4, 2012 This story reminds me of a friend who woke up and found a strange and nasty bruise on her leg.It was really nasty looking and she couldn't remember doing it. She actually rushed off to the doctor: the doctor had a close look- then grabbed a damp cloth- and wiped the bruise away.... it was some kind of dirt... Better still the scratch was not a wrong 6-bit coding.
