50mm Summicron Screw Mount Collapsable Seriral No. Query

I am selling a 50mm Summicron screw mount collapsable at the moment but have noticed the serial number runs well into the M mount numbers. The number of my lens is 1,351,### which is well passed the end of 1,112,### number suggested on the antique camera web site and the Wiki site. Is there any significance to this, is it unusual at all?

My 5cm Summicron LTM is in the 121XXXX range and I have seen higher. Not sure where you are getting that 1112XXX number as the cut off of the LTM versions.

What condition is the front element of your lens. That is the achilles heel of that lens. Mine just happens to be really nice. I love the lens (with an adapter) on my M2-S.

The 1,112,### number is what is quoted as being the last serial number for the screw mounts on the two sites I quoted.

My M adaptor is not screwed into the lens body. The lens is in phenominal condition, hardly looks used. I just wondered if the fact it was made after they supposedly finished making screw mounts it was a special run or something unusual like that, or did they continue making them after starting the M mount production.

Hello Everybody,

The wiki @ the top of this page shows #'s above 1,478,000 for collapsible 50mm screwmount Summicrons. This would be 1957.

Rogliatti has #'s above 1,717,000. This would be 1960.

BTW: Leitz made a # of lenses outside of their serial # ranges. For example: 50mm rigid chrome Summicron # 2279578 (1968). Rigid screwmount 50mm Summicrons are last listed as being produced in 1963.

Best Regards,

Michael

When I was in Canada in 67-69 Midland was offering any of the Canadian made lenses in screw mount as a special order, serial nos would be around 2 million then (I have three lenses I bought new at that time for my new M3!)

I dont recall ever seeing them for sale used though

Gerry
