My M9 was a tripod, and suddently it felt down and a little piece where which locks with

the bottom place was broken....i manage to glue it so it's ok but wondering if leica

covers it as warranty ? i guess they'll have to change the whole chassis ?

thankfully the floor was wood and besides that no other damages

What a weak construction this tripod ring!!

Ouch! That's an important piece that broke off, the flange that the locking mechanism grabs onto. I think any manufacturer, Leica included, would counter that the breakage was not a camera defect, and you'll be charged for any repair/replacement. Luckily you've found a glue that seems to hold. What glue is that?

I doubt many other manufacturers would sell a camera with a design weakness like this.

Thank you ! I emailed them the photo and let's see what they say.

I used super glue and holds it quite well !!

Ouch. I would be concerned about out-gassing. Perhaps I am wrong.

I would be surprised if Leica would charge for the repair.

I called them and spoke with someone and she'll get to me hopefully today about warranty or not...clearly explained the situation. for such cost, i would be grateful if they fix that for free.

Thx

I am not clear on the cause and effect. Did the tripod and camera fall over causing this piece to break? Or did the piece break while the tripod was standing, causing the camera to fall?

Nope just the camera. the plate and a piece of the chassis remain stuck to the tripod head plate. the tripod remain still.

Thanks

Oh, so maybe the camera fell to the floor because the piece of the chassis broke off. If so, I misunderstood your original post. I thought the piece broke when the camera hit the floor after falling off of the tripod.

Just curious what lens you had mounted when your M9 broke away and fell to the floor?

50 Lux. Thankfully the lens and the body are ok since the floor was soft and the tripod wasn't set very high.

It's good that the fall wasn't very far, but a wooden floor is a pretty firm object. If you are sending your M9 in for warranty repair (and I cannot imagine that will not happen) you might also ask them to take a look at your 50 Summilux at the same time, as the failure of the camera resulted it the lens also receiving a jolt. Just to be on the safe side.

It is very scary when a failure like this happens, but hopefully Leica customer service will come through for you.

good news for you, i had the same damage to my m8, which is out of warranty for ages, and it was repaired without any charges. that was 1 month ago, so this information should be very reliable.
