MaxJ1961 Posted April 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted April 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The lens hood ring rotates from side to side causing the hood to move from side to side. Is this normal?
Advertisement Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Hi MaxJ1961, Take a look here 28 Summicron Lens Hood Movement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bill W Posted April 20, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted April 20, 2012 I am not really understanding the issue. I use the lens hood for a 35 Summilux on my 28 Summicron. It has never had any issues, it locks in place and never moves.
MaxJ1961 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 20, 2012 I fixed the problem. The hood locks onto a ring, which has 3 tiny screws. The ring was loose so I found a tiny screwdriver (to repair eye glasses) and I tightened the screws. No more movement.
Gerard Posted April 20, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted April 20, 2012 This is a known issue on the 28 cron. Be sure to use screwdrivers of exceptional quality and do not over tighten.
Bill W Posted April 20, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted April 20, 2012 I fixed the problem. The hood locks onto a ring, which has 3 tiny screws. The ring was loose so I found a tiny screwdriver (to repair eye glasses) and I tightened the screws. No more movement. I have never experienced the problem but I probably need to look at my 28. As I said I use the hood from a 35 Summilux.
Messsucherkamera Posted April 20, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted April 20, 2012 This is a known issue on the 28 cron. Be sure to use screwdrivers of exceptional quality and do not over tighten. Â You have to take a look at these small screws every now ans then or they can loosen and fall out. Â When I discovered that these screws were loose on my hood, I removed them and applied a bit of blue Loctite to the threads with a toothpick before reinstalling them. This resolves the the issue. michali Posted April 20, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted April 20, 2012 I had the same problem with the 28 Summicron hood, the screws kept coming loose. Eventually I used some small rivets and riveted the hood onto the ring. Â Â Â The other option is to purchase a screw in metal hood:http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Metal-46mm-Screw-in-Wide-Angle-Lens-Hood-Cap-E46-/200743698120?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebd41bec8#ht_500wt_1219 for about $10.00 IMO it's far less cumbersome than the Leica hood. 250swb Posted April 22, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted April 22, 2012 Unless I am severely mistaken I think MaxJ1961 was talking about the three tiny screws that hold the front ring on the lens, not the four screws that hold the hood together. A minor point until people confuse the issue and start applying Loctite in the wrong place. Â It is a known problem that the front ring of the 28mm Summicron can become loose. chrism Posted April 22, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted April 22, 2012 Both my Summicron 28's had this problem. It was a lens that had great value on the M8, but I haven't had a 28mm lens since the M9 came along. Â Chris

I re-read the reply of michali after placing my order............too late, I already ordered it ..:  I did not cancel my order since I think the cause of loose screws on the lens is due to the force movement of the hood when inside the bag.....at least if the hood is round and not square, no big movement will occur inside the bag....that's only a wild guess....
