28 Summicron Lens Hood Movement

I fixed the problem. The hood locks onto a ring, which has 3 tiny screws. The ring was loose so I found a tiny screwdriver (to repair eye glasses) and I tightened the screws. No more movement.

I have never experienced the problem but I probably need to look at my 28. As I said I use the hood from a 35 Summilux.

This is a known issue on the 28 cron. Be sure to use screwdrivers of exceptional quality and do not over tighten.

You have to take a look at these small screws every now ans then or they can loosen and fall out.

When I discovered that these screws were loose on my hood, I removed them and applied a bit of blue Loctite to the threads with a toothpick before reinstalling them. This resolves the the issue.

This can help but not a permanent solution though...thanks anyway...

I had the same problem with the 28 Summicron hood, the screws kept coming loose.

Eventually I used some small rivets and riveted the hood onto the ring.

The other option is to purchase a screw in metal hood:http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Metal-46mm-Screw-in-Wide-Angle-Lens-Hood-Cap-E46-/200743698120?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebd41bec8#ht_500wt_1219 for about $10.00 IMO it's far less cumbersome than the Leica hood.

Unless I am severely mistaken I think MaxJ1961 was talking about the three tiny screws that hold the front ring on the lens, not the four screws that hold the hood together. A minor point until people confuse the issue and start applying Loctite in the wrong place.

250swb...you're correct........they're talking of 2 different screw locations...my problem is the 3 screws on the lens and not the 4 on the hood. I re-read the reply of michali after placing my order............too late, I already ordered it ..:;)

I did not cancel my order since I think the cause of loose screws on the lens is due to the force movement of the hood when inside the bag.....at least if the hood is round and not square, no big movement will occur inside the bag....that's only a wild guess....:o
