skinnfell Posted April 14, 2012 Share #1  Posted April 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have wanted a hot shoe cover for my M9 for a while. I never use flash and very rarely use external viewfinders. To me an exposed hot shoe feels like an "open door" for moisture etc.  Apparently Leica doesnt sell these, but luckily, Nikon does. Its called the BS-1 and is very cheap.  However it is too large to fit in the Leica hotshoe. I had one of these lying around and took it upon myself to modify it to see if it could fit the Leica. And I am pretty happy with the result, even if I did a sloppy job. I just used a carpet cutter and made incremental cuts until it fit.  There are three cuts needed to make it fit the leica.  1. The top left corner needs to be angled off 2. The locking pin in the top middle needs a cutout. This can be done by making a square cut like I did or perhaps with a drill if you got sharp drill bits. 3. Finally the bottom part needs a cutout to fit the weird "toungue" that sticks out from the leica hotshoe.  Maybe I will do a better job if I come across another one of these nikon covers but for now it does the job very well for me.  I dont have a before-picture unfortunately, but I have made illustrations to the cuts marked in red.  Good luck! Washington Posted April 15, 2012 Share #5  Posted April 15, 2012 Good job, but for me….. and I did exactly what you did…. I use external finders for all my glass and all I did was loose it.
rramesh Posted April 15, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted April 15, 2012 This is the cheapest and best. The sides are all made of rubber and you can trim it easily (Cut one corner and part of the edge for the stud). Also it does not put undue pressure of the clip springs. http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/180805535771?ssPageName=STRK:null:IT

rramesh Posted April 15, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted April 15, 2012 My only concern with jamming a piece of metal permanently into the hotshoe may weaken the springs over time.
insomnia Posted April 15, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted April 15, 2012 My only concern with jamming a piece of metal permanently into the hotshoe may weaken the springs over time. Â No different to a Thumbs up, an external finder or the hot shoe cover of the M9 Titanium. Also no different to a plastic insert, but much nicer
