MathiasNielsen Posted April 7, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello I bought a Leica III with a really clean Summar recently. The body needs to be nursed back to former glory, though. The shutter sounds good, but the autofocal rangefinder probably need new mirrors and adjustments. There is some resiatance in the winder and the reverse buttons. It feels waxy and old. Can you reckommend me a shop for this job? I probably have to ship it abroad, so destination isn't an issue. Thank you

lumen Posted April 8, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2012 Hi, if giving a personal recommendation isn't against the grain of the forum, I'd like to say that CRR Luton did a fantastic job of overhauling my IIIc- in addition to the work you mention there was a bit more needed to get everything in order like recollmination of the body and an Elmar to be overhauled. Anyway, everything came back as good as new and its a joy to use again (and imagine will be for the next fifty plus years or so!). The website is here CAMERA REPAIRS & RESTORATION - LUTON , ENGLAND - 2012 Year of the London Olympics and whatever your decision I wish you the best with it; they're amazing cameras and very easy to love, cheers! mikebidwell Posted April 8, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 8, 2012 Hi Mathias Welcome to the forum. You don't tell us where you live however the advice given by Philip is sound and that is check out the link he has included in his post. It's been set up to acquaint us with the details of specialist repairers and for you to then choose whom you like. I chose Malcolm Taylor to carry out the repairs on both my IIIf Red Dial and my IIIg and I have to say I was very pleased with what he did for me. In the first instance it was because Malcolm lives not too far away from where I live and I'd spoken to him on the telephone. Secondly because he'd done such a good job I let him have the other body. Really the choice has to be yours so I wish you all the best, I'm sure whoever you choose will do a good job for you. Best wishes Mike
MathiasNielsen Posted April 8, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted April 8, 2012 Thanks for encouragement and suggestions. I am not aware of any local workshops here in Norway, so I'll probably send it to England or home to Germany. From your descriptions, I am confident I'll find able hands. Can't wait to use the rangefinder 1934-style. The lens is looks really good, so I have to shoot one roll before sending it away.
runes Posted April 9, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Mathias. Feels kinda strange to write in English to a fellow Norwegian. :-) Anyway, you should check if Antonio Stasi could service your camera. I know he services a lot of cameras, and maybe he can service yours as well. Antonio Stasi Classic Camera Homepage
earleygallery Posted April 9, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 9, 2012 Don't send it to Solms, they're not interested in the older cameras and wont have the parts you may need. If you really do have a clean Summar - I mean truly clean - you have a rare and special lens!!
payasam Posted April 11, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 11, 2012 Another recommendation. Oleg Khalyavin of Russua has done two bodies for me, a IIIa and a IIIc. Impeccable work quickly done, reasonable charges. He is at OK Photocameras.
