Wate ing, and testing the partnership

Hi there

Like many, I've been waiting for the WATE - they said 2-3 months in January, so I was hoping to get it when we go away in April when we go to Greece for the flowers.

Tim tempted me, and as we are off to france next week skiing, and I fancied something a little lighter for telephoto, I bit the bullet and ordered a 90mm macro elmar from Robert White - for special delivery.

An hour later my wife rang from home to say 'Your lens just arrived' !! What lens? surely Robert White couldn't deliver in an hour from 200 miles away!

I had to confess to both.

Anyway, as always, Emma was as good as gold, immediately went off and bought a new basket. I think flowers are in order, don't you!

So my skiing bag will be the M8, both tri-elmars and the 90mm elmar - sweet:)

As for the WATE - I got the bundle with the ugly bug viewfinder (figuring I could sell it on ebay for more than it cost). BUT - it's wonderful, so accurate, so bright; it's beginning to seem less ugly all the time.

It was just getting dark when I got home, but here is a shot from the garden gate:

got my WATE plus finder couple of days ago and found a similar motive (M8,16mm =21mm, 160ASA, no filter), first impression is a good one; feel exactly like Jono about the finder: it's a very good tool, crystal clear and accurate; forget about the looks, this gadget really helps, and , after all, we ar not out there to impress with looks, are we?

Jono,

Great to here that your WATE is over !! ,(no pun intended) but I would really like to see a picture of the viewfinder mounted on the M8.

As I am seriously thinking of laying out good money for the WATE and finder but have found no pictures of it on the web of the production finder, and I would like to see how big it is mounted on the M8 to make my mind up,

Thankyou for your help,

Cheers

Matthew.

Well Matthew - here they are, but the whole point about the viewfinder is that we've all agreed it's hideous (and you can use the little 21/24/28 if you want). The revelation is just how well it works.

Look at your own peril!

Jono,

Thankyou very much for the pictures ,I think I have made my mind up to go with the viewfinder,it really looks alot better than the early prototype designs that I have seen.

It could have been a more costly mistake to purchase the lens without the viewfinder, and then have to buy it later.

Now if Mark can crack the filter mounted into the lens hood then it really will be a fantastic travel combination for this summer,

Cheers

Matthew.

Hi Matthew

I bought mine with my 'solms discount'. I wasn't going to buy the finder, and then I thought, well, if I don't like it, then I can sell it on ebay for more than it cost . . but I do like it!

Interested to see you've stuck with the wide strap and used the wire rings from the standard strap! Did you do anything to stop the leather collars riding up or are they staying in place?

Mr Observant

Hi Mark

I went back to the original strap, and then thought I'd give it another try - I'm still sitting on the shelf, but I havent done anything to stop the leather collars riding up - I push them back occasionally, but the ideat that it could all twist around until the camera fell off seems a little far fetched.
