Question for the Moderators

Guys,

If you have a piece of equipment especially designed and made for a Leica body

should that not be considered Leica equipment? There is so much interesting stuff

out there (and more coming) wouldn’t relaxing the Leitz only rule only serve to simply

make the forum all the more interesting and educational? Cheers-Rip

So, I could start a discussion about any camera or lens or image in the bar, right?

Bar discussions can be completely unrelated to Leica, right?

Then why was one of my posts moved from the German section to the bar, Stuart then deleted my image, and many months later I added a link to the picture - not the image itself. Then my post was moved to the German equivalent of the bar, namely the Café Leitz - although one can reportedly use any language in the bar. Then a German member advised me I could have posted in the Café Leitz the non-Leica image now anyway.

Whew! What's going on?

Either I am being discriminated against or the rules change or moderators interpret the rules inconsistently.

Did I leave out any other explanations?

From my point of view this course of action sucks big time!!!:D :D :D

Images that are not illustrating technical point go in the photo forum. Only photos with some Leica connection (lens and/or body) are acceptable there.

Take a look at Barnack's bar, there are lots of threads that aren't even related to photography.

If you're not happy with a mod send a pm to Admin.

It looks to me the previous two posts sound like non-denial denials.

So, apparently some folks can post non-Leica related subjects in the bar, including non-Leica images.

Did I understand that correctly? If not, what are the prohibitions for posting in the bar?

Good grief! What's so difficult to understand?

The Bar is completely open, start a thread about anything you like assuming it's potentially of interest to others and not offensive!

Photo rules are that images posted need to be taken with a Leica camera and/or lens. Exceptions are photos to illustrate a point, comparison/test images etc.

James,

Thanks for your comment. I am not trying to antagonize you and will stop posting on this subject after this post.

Please, just let me point out that your first and second statement together seem to be an oxymoron.

It goes without saying that use of offensive language is no permitted on this forum - as it should.be prohibited.

However, even ignoring the latter subject, the bar doesn't seem completely open but is subject to limitations.

No offense intended. Have a good day.

Often enough to have observed that the bar seems to be primarily occupied by folks from the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, occasionally by some folks from the US and the rest of the world. :D :D :D

Our German friends have their own Biergarten...

Not at all, I was merely explaining the rules. Photos posted in the bar for no other reason than to show a photograph will be moved to the photo forum if it's a Leica photograph, and probably deleted if it's not.

You are not being discriminated against.

One of the German Mods will have moved the item to the Bar. IIRC, it was in German, so when the German "bar" opened, it will have been moved there, as your target audience was probably the German side of the forum.

You can post non-Leica images provided they comply with the rules.

If, say, you have taken a shot with a Nikon, with a Nikon lens, then it needs to have some relevance to Leica. Such a shot would NOT be permissable in the Photo section, but if you wanted to illustrate a technical point in one of the technical sub-forums, then you could do so with any camera.

Within the "Bar" areas, the rules are the same, but if you happened to be out and about and saw something or relevance or interest to the forum and only had an iPhone with you, the Mods would be more relaxed about it.

I try to follow the rules but sometimes get frustrated and confused.

Sometimes when I think a non-Leica photo has something to do with Leica….

enough so to qualify….. the moderator thinks not. Everyone does not see things the

same way. But, heck, it isn’t that big a deal to begin with.
