MarkP Posted March 25, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2012 Hi Wondering if anyone has the experience where the screen shows a totally white/black photo? I've tried changing the sd card, update firmware and to no avail. Wondering if anyone can tell me what has happen to my precious Welcome to the forum. B&W display is an option for jpegs... You must be shooting jpeg or DNG + jpeg If so press the SET button and take it off jpeg and shoot just DNG or If you want to shoot jpeg press the MENU button, scroll down to Colour Saturation and take it off B&W (Colour Saturation is already greyed out then you are shooting DNG only with colour display but is active for jpeg display). That should fix the problem. Mark ps I hope you aren't shooting jpeg only as it is a terrible waste of the camera's IQ potential... now that comment is bound to stir up a hornets nest:D
ir_swaps Posted March 25, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted March 25, 2012 Hi, I'm shooting in dng mode. What I mean is the screen is either totally white or black. And I tried to see if the image was recorded but just not showing properly in the review. No such luck. The photo recorded is either all black or all white. Totally clueless on what's causing this. louster Posted March 25, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 25, 2012 just curious, can you tell if a picture has actually been recorded to the card? have you downloaded any images to a computer? are you using class 10 rated cards? good luck, hopefully something simple. ir_swaps Posted March 25, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted March 25, 2012 I've downloading the photos onto the computer. Seems the photos are recorded in the card but in totally white or totally white. Looks like I've to send it back for some professional help
jaapv Posted March 25, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2012 Are you sure you are not seeing extreme over- and underexposures?
wda Posted March 26, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are you sure you are not seeing extreme over- and underexposures? Just my thoughts, too! Can you show us the histogram?
ir_swaps Posted March 26, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted March 26, 2012 Sure. I set the shutter speed to auto (8 by system), aperture at 2.0. Sorry bat the crappy screen shot, photos seems to get compressed in photo bucket. I've tried manual setting it for 15, 30, 45. All yields the same results. jaapv Posted March 26, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2012 EV 0 : exposure nil. Lens cap?
ir_swaps Posted March 27, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted March 27, 2012 No lens cap...sending the precious back to Leica Tom. Sad...
Double Negative Posted March 27, 2012 Share #11 Posted March 27, 2012 It's showing a totally WHITE image - as evidenced by the histogram. Looks like a mega-overexposure.
250swb Posted March 27, 2012 Share #12 Posted March 27, 2012 I would just take the lens off and fire off the shutter at all manual speeds and you should be able to see if something obvious is wrong. Steve
jaapv Posted March 27, 2012 Share #13 Posted March 27, 2012 It's showing a totally WHITE image - as evidenced by the histogram. Looks like a mega-overexposure. And the EV value is
Double Negative Posted March 27, 2012 Share #14 Posted March 27, 2012 And the EV value is 0 Yeah, that's what doesn't make sense...
IkarusJohn Posted March 27, 2012 Share #15 Posted March 27, 2012 No lens cap...sending the precious back to Leica Tom. Sad... Before you do, try a factory reset - Menu, scroll down, and you'll find the option. Your LCD image is the camera generated JPG. I suggest after you reset, don't change any menu settings and try taking a few pictures. Then change the menu settings one by one, to see if the problem recurs. I had a similar problem - black (or blue) LCD, not preview and when I downloaded to LR3, the thumbnails were all blank, but the DNG images still appeared after download. I sent my M9 off to Solms, and the first thing they did was a reset, and said that they couldn't reproduce the problem. The did say my menu set up was odd, which I found a bit strange. It has worked flawlessly since I got it back. Cheers John
ir_swaps Posted April 9, 2012 Author Share #16 Posted April 9, 2012 Just had an update from Leica Germany. Confirmed sensor needed replacement. Luckily te set is still under warranty. It's quite shocking that a machine of this price range can't last more than 2yrs! Especially since I've never dropped it, nor subject it to extreme usage. I hope the baby comes back well n all fixed
