sblitz Posted March 13, 2012 Share #82 Posted March 13, 2012 Andy -- quick question, in the blurb you wrote Our grateful thanks go to the three companies who have supported us so generously since the start of the 2010 project, Leica, AICR and Blurb. The Twitter and Facebook campaign that Leica organised on the back of the 2010 book allowed them to donate €3,000 to the project, Is this support happening again for the 2012 book? About to send this throughout my firm and want to be able to answers questions honestly that might arise. best, Steve
andybarton Posted March 13, 2012 Author Share #83 Posted March 13, 2012 Blurb no longer have their "Blurb for Good" system, which is a shame. Leica haven't offered anything this time, but that might change. I would assume not, at this stage. To be honest, we were very fortunate with their support last time and shouldn't assume that this is going to be available again.
sblitz Posted March 13, 2012 Share #84 Posted March 13, 2012 i would have thought that they would. it does nothing but put them in a good light -- something all corporations benefit from in this environment. well, i hope they are reading this thread and will chime with a reason why not. Gerard Posted March 14, 2012 Share #85 Posted March 14, 2012 I have a discount voucher for Blurb; I presume using this will not affect what money goes to the charity?
andybarton Posted March 14, 2012 Author Share #86 Posted March 14, 2012 It would be pretty poor if Blurb offer a discount voucher and then take that discount from the author's profit, IMHO. I can't say that they won't for definite, though.
Gerard Posted March 14, 2012 Share #87 Posted March 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll use it. Should you notice the full funds don't reach you; I'll wire you the missing value.
andybarton Posted March 14, 2012 Author Share #88 Posted March 14, 2012 Thanks. I will be able to see the "profit" come through soon after you have ordered. If it's less than £10, I will let you know. The best way to put it to AICR, is via the JustGiving site directly. I will be doing the same when Blurb PayPal me the proceeds. Please let me know when you have ordered, so that I can watch for "your" profit. Thanks
MarkP Posted March 14, 2012 Share #89 Posted March 14, 2012 Hi Andy, if I'm reading this right 'Premium Paper' is the best paper option available so there's no point waiting for a 'Pro Paper' option and I should go ahead and order NOW. Mark
andybarton Posted March 14, 2012 Author Share #90 Posted March 14, 2012 At present, there are two editions available - Standard and Premium Lustre. Each one needs to be uploaded separately and each edition requires that I buy a copy to make it available (an eBook version will do, though). I have tried to get a Pro Paper option, but failed spectacularly. The Blurb software just links to a page which won't accept the options. The cost of the Pro Paper option would also be well over £100 per copy. I will try again at the weekend, but if you were to buy the Premium Paper option I am sure that you won't be disappointed. So far only two people have chosen the dust jacket version, which is interesting. I will also try to get the smalller, 7x7 inch version prepped for the weekend too, and if I could work out how to get the Blurb eBook into Apple's iBookStore (where the DRM will probably be sorted), I will do that too. I think that it might only be an option for US based authors though.

MarkP Posted March 14, 2012 Share #93 Posted March 14, 2012 Just bought two: premium paper and dustjackets. I like those old fashioned covers and it matches my 2010 LUF Book Mark

Gerard Posted March 14, 2012 Share #97 Posted March 14, 2012 Andy, a friend of mine runs Pixiq (Photography Tips & Equipment Reviews | Pixiq) and has said if copy and images are supplied, they will promote on their site (and linked social media accounts). Is there a media pack we can send out to interested parties?

StS Posted March 15, 2012 Share #99 Posted March 15, 2012 Just ordered the premium/wrap combination. I didn't order speed shipment, two days less won't make a difference and I probably have to pick it up the next Saturday at the next post station anyhow, since it probably will not fit in my letterbox...
