Black Leica Hot Shoe for MP: Group Buy?

To turn it black, you'd have to strip off the chrome and nickel, then use a chemical to blacken the brass. You could use paint, but even then you'd still have to strip down to the brass. Frankly, this is all a bit more involved than I'd personally like!

You can get home chrome stripping kits for about £100 with everything you need. You then just paint it black or take it to be plated black commercially.

As regards a group buy, I'd rather think about using up the remaining 15 exposures in my MP that contemplating my navel over the colour of the hotshoe, so I'm out.

This was asked over on the Film Forum, ''What kind of Features would you wish for a New Film Camera ?''

Most probably, my answer would be, ''Getting rid of the hotshoe altogether!'' ...

... let alone trying to get it finished in black. ... :o

No interest. The color of the hotshoe appears to me to be one of the great irrelevancies of life...

Amusing to read the responses to this topic. Yet I'd have no interest in pursuing this.

I have a black paint MP but I would not be interested in a black chrome hot shoe on the basis of its different tone to the black paint as shown in a photo in the 'I Love My MP' thread. Oddly perhaps, my feeling is that the black chrome hot shoe would catch the eye more than a silver chrome hot shoe because of the slight variance.

Pete.
