Rokkor 90/4 - 2nd gen for CLE

Had quite some luck today. Ran into Rokkor 90/4 at local Leica dealer today. It's the 2nd gen or later generation model that was made in Japan for Minolta CLE. So it's the multicoated version with the normal M-series focusing cam etc.

Anyway, I think I just made a real bargain. They sold it for 270€ or 360 usd. The lens is if not unused, then at least very very little used. It still had the box & all papers as new and even the hood still smelled like new rubber. No marks, scratches or defects of any kind anywhere.. and aperture ring clicked nicely & focus was smooth and accurate.

I've only taken a couple of test shots with it and it seems like a truly wonderful lens. Even wide open it looks pretty damn sharp. Also noticed that it has bucket loads of contrast, which of course isn't for everybody's liking, but that can be fixed in post. There is vignetting evident in the corners wide open, but nothing really worrying. I knew this in advance and also can be fixed in post.

I'll try and take some real photos in the upcoming days to show how the lens works. So far I'm very pleased with it. The small size & lightness is amazing. It's going to be a great travel lens and nicely completes my lens collection. Now have the, I guess classic, 28-50-90 kit.

Wow!

Mint condition always is a premium and based on that, I'd say you probably did alright price wise.

The prices for Leica/Rokkor 'C' Lenses got pulled upward right along with the rest of the used M market. In recent years.

It took a couple years to get the funds in hand for my M8 Outfit purchases and in that time the prices for C lenses went up iirc about 100%.

Interesting thanks for sharing. How flare prone is it in your experience?

Really hard to say at this point. I've only had it for few hours and it was unfortunately very cloudy today, so absolutely no experience on that yet. And sadly it looks like we won't be seeing much sun until wednesday afternoon.. but if that holds true, on wednesday I'll be sure to try it.
