Marac Posted February 15, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just picked up this little beauty today from the local Camera store. Some Idiot, however, decided it would be a great idea to 'GLUE' the M-mount adapter to the lens. If anyone has any tips to remove it without damaging either I might try it, but for now, Im using it on my M8 and it is extremely sexy for a lens made in 1950. serial 77802. Just wanted to share my good fortune in finding a very mint version with original cap Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hi Marac, Take a look here Ernst Leitz Wetzler Summaron 3.5cm f3.5 1950. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted February 15, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2012 Depends on the glue they used... ... have you some other bayonet mount device to mount the lens and try to force the unscrewing ? Better not to make this on the M8 BM... (for similar operations, I have an old Visoflex II BM that allows such stresses without worrying...) Summaron 35 is definitely a nice lens... but on the M8 to solve the issue of IR filter is a bit annoying (with this version, with the E39 version of course ther is no problem) : the simplest way is to find a SOOGZ/13154 adapter and use the E39 filter.. (btw... I suppose you forgot to type a "7" or a "8" in the s/n... )
Marac Posted February 15, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted February 15, 2012 779807 ... blind as a bat I am, sorry just put the eyeglass on it... that is still 1950 I presume
TomB_tx Posted February 15, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2012 This is a nice lens. I used one on a IIIf while in the army in 1969-71 and loved the resulting slides. I've also tried it on my M9, and it is indeed very good. I recall the store where I bought it (used) had two, in the plastic bubbles, with sequential serial numbers. I broke up the set and just bought one.
Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted February 15, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 15, 2012 If anyone has any tips to remove it without damaging either I might try it Try nail polish remover (might be necessary to suck it - only the adapter of course - in a tray and leave it overnight)
Marac Posted February 15, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted February 15, 2012 I picked up a Jupiter 135/4 at the same store, interesting lump of chrome, will try that too later.. Some useful advice to remove the damn adapter... who in their right mind would GLUE it on... maybe it was a loose fit?

Some useful advice to remove the damn adapter... who in their right mind would GLUE it on... maybe it was a loose fit? Maybe he was simply a M-owner sure not to revert to screw mount body... and whishing to have his adapter always and definitely secured to his Summaron... ... after all, even Leitz did glue S-to-M adapters to the first "apparently-bayonet-mount" lenses... (on Summicron 90, just for example)
Marac Posted February 15, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted February 15, 2012 To be honest, as an M user myself I have thought about just leaving it glued on there but it will certainly knock the value of the lens down a fair bit should I ever decide to sell it on. jaques Posted February 16, 2012 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2012 i guess you should leave it as is for the moment... if you decide to sell you can re-visit the ungluing concept... soaking the adapter/base in nail polish remover sounds very dangerous to me... I would be worried it would be drawn up into the lens... pretty sure it would damage it. However- from memory- on the 50mm Elamr LTM lens it is possible to remove the lens from the focus/mounting base by removing the infinity locking pin (?) and unscrewing the lens barrel from the mount. Then you could soak the base part only in nail polish remover... not sure if you can do this with the 35mm lens?
Marac Posted February 16, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted February 16, 2012 Took this shot with it yesterday just before buying it (1st shot) I like things with a lot of character and this lens, I think, will have bundles of it. Sorry cannot make the pic show here so click the link
lars_bergquist Posted February 16, 2012 Share #11 Posted February 16, 2012 Posting images is not too difficult. Is there some glitch that prevents it? If you don't know how, and happen to use a Mac, I could help. And it can't be much different on a Windows box because it is mostly governed by the bulletin software.
