Best way to get the new M10?

I know it hasn't been announced yet, but when it is, I'd like to get one. The local dealer is lacking in some aspects and I don't trust they will get my order in on time.

The question is, can you guys recommend a good dealer that has their act together for preorders? I need someone who can ship within the EU. Many thanks!

I know a few people in Nigeria who may get you one.

They email me regularly.

You may have to give them some bank account details though and allow them to transfer several million dollars temporarily to your account.

Let me know if interested.

Why the piss-take? It's just unnecessary.

This is a legitimate question, and dozens of forum members will have plans to drop deposits with dealers so as to be the first kid in the block with a new M10 when September comes.

don't you think that if an M10 is September was true there would be some beta versions around being used -- and that some intrepid reporter would've pick up on it by now?

as for buying an m10, if the dynamic range is clearly improved i am in, if not, i will dutifully wait for the m11.

Before the M9 was released, lots of mules were in the hands of beta testers. All of whom signed NDAs with Leica, so can and will not talk about them to forums like this one.

A similar band of brothers will probably be testing M10s now, all of which will have M9 engraved on the front. And no one will talk about them.

Which is as it should be.

i agree that is how should be, but secrets are awfully tough to keep in this day and age and my only point is that as these mules are out there, someone will see and report at some point. just the way the world works today -- not necessarily how it should work.

I believe that an M8 was spotted in a theatre in London prior to launch, but all it was was spotted. No indication of what it was all about.

NDAs usually have huge penalty clauses and those people who have access to them have their own reputations to preserve. As well as their wallets.

I (personally) would feel rather nervous about dropping a chunky deposit to get Leica's next M ahead of the crowds.

It could be an amazing and groundbreaking camera, but for this very reason, it could also suffer from early production snags and also not quite be the M you might be expecting.

Having the latest ahead of the game will change little. Why not wait those extra few months and have the chance to learn a little from those most experienced at reviewing cameras?

Also watch out who you give a deposit to. My dealer in Dallas went out of business after a 6 month wait for the 50 Summilux. Luckily I didn't give them a deposit. I took a chance and gave Popflash deposits and so far so good. They seem to get a steady flow of Leica gear, where the Dallas shop was getting none. They had a nice brick and mortar store ...so looks can be deceiving.

As sure as eggs is eggs, people will be clamoring for the M11 and so on ad infinitum. All tech stuff, not just cameras, are part of this out-of-control spiral. Unless you buy something that is already out of date that uses proven reliable technology and gives you the results you like -- existing digital cameras, film cameras, hi-fi componentry, for example. Newer isn't always better... or you'll never be satisfied.

Would dedicated Leica shops (only in major cities) be able to secure preferential stocks of new products? Imagine long queues for the latest Leica products, as with Apple stores and iPhone and iPad, etc... ;)
