About the Elmar 3.5/50, some are better than the others and some are reallly exception due certainly from the combination (at random) of best elements put together during their assembly.

I will say based on the pictures posted in here during this last years that the one that James owned and the one from Andy are part of this ones

I tend to agree that there are good copies and exceptional copies of this and other Elmar's.

I can surely say that mine performs better than my Summaron, and is more enjoyable to use.

I find it best for close up 1-3 meters and is perfect for people shots, thats where I enjoy it the most.

If the lighting is good it really delivers a lovely image.If the lighting is either too direct or muddy then it struggles.

This is a picture taken with my 35mm Elmar, scanned from a darkroom print. Sharper than might be expected and into the light, uncoated pre-war lens.

Beautiful photo, that reminds me to use my old 3.5 Elmar 5 cm more often as well. Amazing quality actually, but I understand from JC that there are difference between the lenses.
