bono0272 Posted February 10, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings! I would like to seek the advices from the fellows here, on what filter type should I use on the Voigtlander 50mm F2.5 Color Skopar? I am using the LH-2 hood on this lens, and I know the filter size is 39mm. However, it seems a typical 39mm UV filter rim is too thick which will obstruct attaching the LH-2 hood. Shall there be any 39mm UV filter with a thinner rim which can be used on this lens and also allows attaching the LH-2 hood? Or there is no other choice and I need to give up this idea? Thanks in advanced.
Advertisement Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Hi bono0272, Take a look here Voigtlander 50mm F2.5 Color Skopar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted February 10, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2012 I only use Leica and B&W 39mm filters the rims of which have the same thickness apparently. Now there is a filter thread at the bottom of the hood for 40.5mm filters if memory serves but i may be wrong. Welcome, dear visitor! Double Negative Posted February 10, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2012 You could always use a third-party 39mm screw-in metal hood. The 50's a long enough focal length that vignetting shouldn't be an issue. You'll just need a new lens cap to go with...
bill Posted February 10, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 10, 2012 I had one and a filter fitted snugly inside... have you actually tried? Regards, Bill
TomB_tx Posted February 10, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2012 There were two hoods available for the 50 Color Skopar: a small round hood and the larger, flattened one shown above. Which do you have?
lct Posted February 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2012 LH-2 shown above.
bill Posted February 10, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had the small round one. Regards, Bill
lct Posted February 10, 2012 Share #8 Posted February 10, 2012 I have it too. It is not very useful per se but becomes almost useless with a (39mm) filter on the lens.
lct Posted February 11, 2012 Share #9 Posted February 11, 2012 Inexpensive plain and vented (below on the CV 50/2.5) screw-in hoods together with hood caps are easily available. The hoods must be screwed onto the filters though. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Double Negative Posted February 12, 2012 Share #11 Posted February 12, 2012 I thought about getting deeper (aftermarket) hoods for the lil' Skopars, but in the end I always decided not to - as they kill the biggest reason I own them... Their small size! 39mm filters *should* fit fine with the stock hood, but you have to remove it first. Screw in the filter, then replace the hood. Naturally, some might be slightly larger than others but that's more of an exception than a rule I'd say.
lct Posted February 12, 2012 Share #12 Posted February 12, 2012 There is no problem at all with the stock hood, with either Leica or B&W 39mm filters, save that the hood becomes nearly useless with a filter on.
lct Posted February 12, 2012 Share #13 Posted February 12, 2012 Here with the stock hood and a B+W 39mm IR-cut filter. Welcome, dear visitor!
