Workshops in street and documentary photography?

Along with my new venture into rangefinder photography, I am wondering whether there are photographers (besides Overgaard) who do workshops in street or documentary photography. I am familiar with many of the landscape photography workshops but haven't come across these others. Any leads would be appreciated.

David and Peter Turnley.

Peter does many more workshops....Cuba, Rio, Paris, NYC and many more. I have worked with both of them. Top, top notch. Intense, 1 week, tons of shooting, editing with brilliant photographers. Peter will be doing a couple in NYC this year along with Leica...with M9s available to use. PM me if you want to chat...can fill you in on the experience.

Hi,

If you are in the Toronto area, check Sam Javanough (sp?) and his daily photo site: topleftpixel.com. He runs occasional street photography outings, he may also run some of those through Henry's. If ou are in the Montreal area contact Jean Bardaji at Leica Boutique (Camtec photo).

The Leica Akademie North America is having a two day street photography workshop in Vancouver, BC July 20-21.

If that doesn't work there are many more classes in cities across North America. I attended two workshops last year, and the quality of the instructors, combined with the ability to shoot any and all Leica lenses (you can even borrow an M9 if needed) is fantastic.

Wanna know the other one?

Naked chicks with funny hats on, out of focus.

... or... naked chicks in the forest, out of focus... with or without funny hats on.

We have about 12 of those guys in this town.

What are the Leica workshops like? Are they any good? I'm serious, just want to know. I'm signed up for one in NYC in June.

I attended two Leica Akademie classes last year. The first was a one day M9 Experience in San Francisco, which was fun and allowed me to try several Leica lenses as we shot in Chinatown. I also learned several pointers on Lightroom workflow which I've put to good use. The second class was a Leica Weekend at Venice Beach with Craig Semetko. This was 2 1/2 days of learning from one of the best, while using Leica loaner lenses. It's really nice to pick up a Noctilux, then a 21 Summilux, then a 90 APO Summicron. Much cheaper than LensRentals.

The classes have been so successful they've added instructors and new events. Highly recommended!!!

I'll do personal street photography workshops for £1000 per day. PM me.

Some might say that street photography is just about getting out there with your camera, mingling and being discreet, rather not what would be achieved through a group workshop!

I wonder which workshop HCB went on?

I wonder which workshop HCB went on?

I think he went to the workshop called 'earning a living'. By which I mean if there is a pressure to make images it does concentrate the mind in a way that wandering about waiting for something to happen doesn't. And while Bresson appeared to just drop in on the scenes he photographs he was at work.

So you go on a photographic workshop because it concentrates the mind, it forces the ideas to the surface, it adds benign pressure.

The thing about any workshop is that a large part of it is interacting with other [street] photographers. It can be very inspirational. I can guarantee that you will come back energised and keen to put ideas into practice if you attend one.

I for myself attended a Eric Kim workshop in Tokyo and it was really good. The discussion level we had on image critique on each others images, was far beyond the critique you get at Flickr or even on this forum. Also I made some very good new friends from different parts of the world.
