so I thought I would break the silence

Just bought a M8 still in guarantee!, was either one of the last made or on the shelf for a long time

The serial number seems to be in the middle of the ones made, so proof that the hot shoe batches use for M digital manufacture are all over the place ...

Why's that - did you sell your M9?

Yes

I had an offer I couldn't refuse

My view is that the M9 will depreciate rapidly after the M10 is announced and supplies become available (if it is announced this year). The M8 and M8.2 will depreciate much less, if at all.

So I will either return to M9 photography at that time or buy an M10

I know for many on this forum the cost is peanuts but not for me. Saving possibly £1000 over a year could fund new lens purchases and all for the inconvenience of less cropping capability and a noisier shutter for a while.

BTW my predictions are notoriously inaccurate!

That the current value of an M8 will depreciate less than an M9 is obvious and does not require special incantations, snake oil, etc.

Similarly the value of the M9 will decrease more than that of the M8, if (if) the M10 is announced. Nothing revolutionary here.

So I agree with colonel. Not that this is an incentive for me to start selling/trading Leica stuff.

Oh dear! Some members may find that surprising news and controversial logic after your recent enthusiasm for the M9 and what it could do for your photography. I rather thought the M8 might be its companion. :)

the M9 is awesome

no question

Colonel, hi

How many lenses do you have ?

Interesting you are considering the M8 as an alternative for 6-9 months for a depreciation saving. Having lived with both, I would be interested in your views of where the M8 really falls short
