Gibbo Posted January 31, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was wondering if anyone in the Bristol area would like to join up for a meet in April this year? I had in mind either Saturday the 21st or the 28th. Hopefully the weather will be with us and I was going to suggest that we meet up in Queen Square and wonder around stopping to take photos, call in to a coffee shop and possibly have a pub lunch. We can use this thread to come up with ideas between now and then. Please respond here if you are interested
Advertisement Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Hi Gibbo, Take a look here Bristol Meet - 28th April. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bill Allsopp Posted January 31, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 31, 2012 Bristol is a bit of a hike for me but may not be out of the question, I'll keep my eye on the thread.
robert_parker Posted January 31, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2012 That sounds like fun - generally I go to London for meets as it's a) Easier to drive in that town than Bristol quicker to get to through the traffic and c) cheaper to park but this sounds like a good idea !! I hope I'm not hijacking but it might be tempting to see if we can lure some of the London posse down the M4 to see the sunny south west.... or even some of the Manchester congregation might stir for the day... One thought that comes to mind is that Queen Square might be evil to park in or near on a Saturday as well as being quite expensive - maybe Cannon's Marsh might be easier to get to and park whilst still being visually interesting and Broadmead, Queen Square and other things are a short walk up the quayside (SS Great Britain is opposite too). It'll be fun to see how the idea develops.
stunsworth Posted January 31, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2012 It's ages since ive been to Bristol. I may try and get there if the date and location gets chosen.
farnz Posted January 31, 2012 Share #5 Posted January 31, 2012 I'm not in the Brizle area but count me in please! Given the choice I'd prefer 28th but I can probably make 21st work if needed. Pete.
andybarton Posted January 31, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 31, 2012 I'm game. I spent 4 years in Bristol as a student and I love the place. Don't get much opportunity to return these days.

spylaw4 Posted February 1, 2012 Share #9 Posted February 1, 2012 May be possible - depends on the train fare - last time I went (admittedly fairly last minute) it cost a b****y fortune. So an early fixing of the date would help.
Michael-IIIf Posted February 1, 2012 Share #10 Posted February 1, 2012 I'll be out of the country on the 21st but would love join you if it is the 28th.

Trains between London and Bristol are notoriously expensive but it's quite a quick drive, M4 - M32 - Central Bristol
stunsworth Posted February 1, 2012 Share #12 Posted February 1, 2012 Looks like most people are happiest with the 28th. Does anyone have a problem with that date?
andybarton Posted February 1, 2012 Share #13 Posted February 1, 2012 I don't. A return Standard Ticket, without an Old Folks Rail Card ( ;0 ) would be £51.50 if booked today, from Paddington to Temple Meads, leaving at 08:00 and returning at 18:00. Takes about an hour and a half. From my station, it's a 3 hour journey, changing at Stafford, and the cost would be £68.
bill Posted February 1, 2012 Share #14 Posted February 1, 2012 I like the sound of this. I'll discuss it at home and commit in a bit. We are saying 28th, yes? Regards, Bill
Gibbo Posted February 1, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted February 1, 2012 We appear to have a concensus so the 28th April is the date. Andy, please could you edit the thread title to that effect? Ta!
Tim B Posted February 1, 2012 Share #16 Posted February 1, 2012 Interesting idea - I used to live near Bristol. If I'm free it might be possible, despite the drive. Car sharing possibilities from London? Tim

Why not a Sunday, If my memory serves me right then I thought the Trenchard Street Car Park (behind the Colston Hall) did a charge of £1.60 all day on Sundays. And its very handy for the Centre, Queens Square, M Shed(well worth a visit) and the Harbourside. Just a thought Best wishes Mike Bidwell PS Just checked out the Bristol Whats On for W/E 28th April and so far nothing has shown up so it should be too manic in town. PPS Seems as though Trenchard Street does all day on Saturday for £2.60 but I'm sure it will be busy
bill Posted February 1, 2012 Share #18 Posted February 1, 2012 My only possible objection to a Sunday meet is that most of the railway lines in the country seem to be shut for enginerng work Regards, Bill
gravastar Posted February 2, 2012 Share #19 Posted February 2, 2012 I'm interested......never been to Bristol. It would take me 3-4 hours to get there. Train fares are variable with a 30% variation for seemingly similar routes need to look into this some more. I'd also agree with avoiding a Sunday because of engineering works/replacement buses etc. which could introduce serious delays. Bob.
mikebidwell Posted February 2, 2012 Share #20 Posted February 2, 2012 Not having to use the train I didn't realise the problems which obviously must exist so definitely not a good idea, Saturday 28th suits me fine so count me in please. Best wishes Mike
