Eastgreenlander Posted January 29, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know it would be difficult even a external viewfinder to frame accurately but apart from that, is it possible to develop a 14mm F2.8 for the M system? FrozenInTime Posted January 29, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 29, 2012 The Zeiss 15 f/2.8 ZM already exists despite being designed as a tour de force lens, throwing aspherical surfaces, exotic glass and floating elements, it is large and vignettes so much a center spot ND filter is supplied. Â Could Leica do any better ? unlikely
lct Posted January 29, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 29, 2012 There are or have been 12/5.6 (CV), 15/8 (Zeiss-Leica), 15/4.5 (CV), 15/2.8 (Zeiss) and 16-18-21/4 (Leica) M lenses already so why not? Not sure if there would be many people enough to buy it though.
FrozenInTime Posted January 30, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted January 30, 2012 There is a rumor a 14mm f/3.8 is on the cards for 2012 : Â http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/171593-m9-lens-coding-revalation.html
Erik Gunst Lund Posted January 30, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted January 30, 2012 Nikon has a very nice 14 2.8 it's big on a range finder though, I have used it a few times to try it out. The Nikon zoom 14-24 2.8 is already a legend, extremely good. I have shot some really nice pictures with it, but the problem with very wide angle lenses is that details tend to become so small, I'd rather stitch two or more images. Â Actually the full frame fisheye 16 2.8 is often more fun, but a rear UV/IR filter has to custom made for the M8 :-)
lct Posted January 30, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted January 30, 2012 An eventual f/3.8 lens would be another beast. Less monstruous and more affordable certainly.

lct Posted January 30, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted January 30, 2012 I don't recall its size but it is a fish-eye if memory serves. The Super-Elmarit-R 15/2.8 is 85mm x 83mm, 710 gr.

I sanded down a 39mm filter to fit in the rear bayonet mount, it makes a little offset for the focus since it's thicker than the original rear filters.
