Who wants a lens sub forum?

Hello Everybody,

The addition of a new section focused on lenses is not a bad idea in itself.

Added to that might be a system of internal restructuring of already submitted material in all current categories done by moderators where, while reading for the purposes of moderation, they might link, w/ a simple mouse click, relevant Threads &/or Posts to already opened Threads. Something along the lines of what is currently done in the wiki @ the top of this page.

If a simple method of integrating materials can be developed so as not to overburden the moderators.

Best Regards,

Michael

Is this possible?

Who, keep in mind, does not have a clue as to how to Post a picture.

There are well over 100,000 threads on the forum.

You can ask one of the other Moderators whether they'd be willing to go through all of them to cross-reference them to all the other relevant threads, but, sorry, IMHO, that is well above and beyond the call of duty. :o

I totally agree with this. It only makes sense. A sub-forum for each focal length in Leica's lineup (most widely used) would be a very welcomed addition. So here goes to the moderators: please add these features. Thank you!

Sub-forums for each focal length would create far too many fora. Better to consider Wide, Standard and Telephoto/Long ... and not differentiate between LTM, R and M - thus catering for Panasonic. Standard lenses to include 40mm to 60mm and all standard zooms.

But there might be a case for a separate 'Macro lenses' category too - thus promoting some separate discussion of Photar lenses and R macro lenses and photomicrographic techniques ... or perhaps a separate 'Lenses in general' discussion forum in addition to the above three.

Hello Andy,

Sorry about the lack of clarity in my Post.

What I was suggesting was: W/ new Threads, as they came along, there might be a simple & not time consuming cross referencing system deviseable to have relevant material accessable in some manner elsewhere when appropriate.

In a way which would not add to your workload.

Best Regards,

Michael

Maybe not lens, but focal length may be helpful. Super-wide, wide, normal, tele, macro, whathaveyou. It would lessen search time after the search query. Thank you.

Sub-forums for each focal length would create far too many fora.

Whatever happened to keeping things simple?

Search is not hard to use - easier, certainly than hopping from forum to forum. Where for instance would you put the 60mm Elmarit-R? Standard? Macro? Tele? Different people will put it in different places.

One forum.

Regards,

Bill

Bill,

I may have the same convictions and resistance to a new order if I had such tenur. My expression is based on a very new set of learned experiences here within the forum and its organization and then the comparison of how Leica itself categorizes the product line.

I don't mean to muddy water within this thread and the discussion, but simply searching defies the purpose of categorization. I would think it would be quite logical to limit search within a sector of that organization, et alibi.

My best example is the search for something about the 90mm Macro-Elmar-M. Please share, please tell me how you would go about your search?

Would it include one, some, or all of the following:

Macro-Elmar-m

90mm macro

90mm macro Elmar m

90mm mem

90mm f4

90mm f/4

Mem

90mm portrait

90mm macro

Et cetera.

I hope I don't come of as sharp, I have made effort to not be.

As I went through the above and laborious act of clicking through the search results I found much in the way of wanting something--more organized.

I yearn to learn from other experiences as much as my own, this is why I am here and I would rather not be admonished to ask a weary question I could have found the answer for myself.

Ps. I do think different people would in fact make error or crest confusion in a well meaning attempt to help us keep organized, in such events I would trust the moderator class to handle as well as they do now within the parameters of the forum software.

I made a collection of links to Leica M mount lens reviews (Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlaender, Konica etc.) for making comparisons of lenses easier. My categories are

12mm - 25mm,

28mm - 35mm,

40mm - 60mm,

75mm - 90mm,

100mm - 135mm.

I also added links to forum discussions (e.g. Leica User Forum, GetDPI, Rangefinder Forum) as additional information. Maybe that is, what your are looking for: one time saving ressource.

Here you can find it:

That's an outstanding effort. Great Job and a big thank you for sharing. I am on a bit of a lens exploration at the moment.

Not me. "If it aint broke, dont fix it". There are enough sub forums as it is

Would one more sub-forum hurt? I can clearly see much resistance to the idea. I don't have a dog in fit other than being new and confused.

Where is it recommend I post my lens questions?

I have just been reading some of these posts again ( can not get to sleep and it's 4 in the morning)

The conclusion I have come too is perhaps we should all be taking more pictures:eek:
