Dan95 Posted January 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys. Last week bought a M7 chrome. It has the older style finder, and the old DX reader thingy. I myself prefer to set the ASA manually, never even crossed my mind to send the M7 to Leica to get the DX reader upgraded. So while I was toying around with the bugger, I noticed something very peculiar. The on-off knob is a wee bit loose ? Here's a video I uploaded to depict the problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3yWb...ature=youtu.be It still functions as it should, turns on and off. A friend's M7 which was recently sent to Solms for a complete CLA, also suffers from this ( shall I call it problem ) ? Dang. Was hoping to expose a few rolls of Tri X this weekend. bill Posted January 25, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2012 Since your youtube link is "malformed" it's hard to see what you are talking about. I have no problem with mine. Regards, Bill

pico Posted January 25, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2012 I have two early M7 cameras and each has similar wiggle, but they work just fine. I would consider it normal behavior. Shoot that film and enjoy!

andybarton Posted January 26, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 26, 2012 Send it in for the DX reader change and the switch will be sorted at the same time.
hamey Posted January 26, 2012 Share #9 Posted January 26, 2012 My M7 shutter button stuck last month so I took it for repairs then hoping to sell it when I get it back. However when I previewed the slides taken with it I changed my mind. Now I have bought another, this time a silver one, simply gorgeous. No problem with the ON OFF switch. Ken. spylaw4 Posted January 26, 2012 Share #10 Posted January 26, 2012 Send it in for the DX reader change and the switch will be sorted at the same time. But make it quite plain that that, plus the on/off switch fix, is all you want done otherwise they'll want to do an expensive CLA as well. For which you need to be sitting down when you read the estimate !
andybarton Posted January 26, 2012 Share #11 Posted January 26, 2012 When mine came back from having it done, they'd given it a "check" too. I am not sure, but I suspect that the top plate has to come off for the DX reader change, so the switch will need to be removed and replaced too. A full CLA isn't a bad idea, in any case, though. cbretteville Posted January 26, 2012 Share #12 Posted January 26, 2012 I've had mine upgraded last year. The DX upgrade is a mixed blessing. If you use DX coded rolls only I guess it is fine, but the optical one reads my Rollei Retro 100 rolls as ISO5000 and its the same for my Kalt reusable that I use to roll from bulk. The Rolleis have a white label, the Kalts are yellow. Neither are DX coded. Found out yesterday that I'll be using black electrical tape on them to ensure the reader doesn't get confused. I also find it a real pita that the exposure compensation led/dot is constantly blinking when I manually set the ISO, even on a non coded cartridge. I'm starting to wonder if buying an M7 was a mistake. I've had it since September and it has spent more time in Solms than with me allowing me to shoot exactly two rolls in that time. pico Posted January 26, 2012 Share #13 Posted January 26, 2012 Just realise i have a more serious problem, horizontal alignment is off! Horizontal alignment of the switch? Are you saying that the switch actually does not work - that there is no detent between on-and-off? Is it slipping off or on accidentally? Does the red dot show when it is off? Can you (or do you have) a filler gauge to tell us the vertical play? If it's at an unacceptable height, then it's probably a super simple fix by a person with the right ring tools. By all means, don't panic. Try to shoot a roll of film. Don't let it ruin your day before you know whether it works at all.
Dan95 Posted January 26, 2012 Author Share #14 Posted January 26, 2012 Whoops sorry for not making myself clear. The rangefinder is a wee bit off, horizontally. Waiting for the moon to appear, then Ill adjust it using a screw driver, via the lens mount thingy.
