Supposed Leica would come up with a M10, new sensor, improved handling, etc... Could there also be a chance that a M9 might be upgraded to a M10? So that the mechanics remain stable but only digital technology is being changed?

I don’t think so; it’s quite unlikely that that would be much one could salvage from an M9 to build an M10.

What about XM?

A guy in the street had the original XM, when I grew up. Everyone admired him.

Later he went to Leica R.

Now that was a superb camera in its day! Highly underrated, with exchangeable viewfinder and all professional features of the time , not built like a tank, but like a battleship. It needed a strong man to handle it.

It isn't just the LCD thickness, it is also the thickness of the sensor, and the circuit board on which it is mounted.

Take a look at this top view of the X-Pro 1: http://www.dpreview.com/previews/fujifilmxpro1/images/top.jpg

Note the image-plane index mark (circle with a line through it, to the left of the hot shoe), which denotes the location of the sensor. HALF the camera thickness (over 1 cm) is behind the sensor. And this is a brand-new camera, designed in 2011 using "the newest generation of displays and electronics."

Nice touch that Fuji added that index mark... However the thickness of the fuji may not have been determined by what is behind the sensor so much as by the combined optical/evf system?

Thanks Jaap!

I can confirm that this guy I refer to, probably was far stronger than the average youth, and by the way also one of the most sympathetic acquaintances I've ever had.

As a curiosity, I allow myself to mention that he once was alone skiing in the mountains, when he accidentally fell and broke his leg bone.

This was of course long before the mobile phone was invented. He was to stay in tents for several nights, so no one missed him.

He dragged himself with raw arm strength, 8 km (5 miles), through the winter night, down a mountain valley to nearest house where people lived.

It was a tremendous feat of strength and ability to withstand pain. In fact it was a miracle that he survived.

Finally an SXGA microdisplay based on OLED:

Microoled, the smallest OLED microdisplay in the world!

Let's hope Leica doesn't stick with Sonys XGA-OLED and combines the SXGA with a nice optical system to make it a real step forward compared to OVF - and not just a lazy compromise...

That is a 5MP OLED display:

Desarrollan un visor electr

Even if that technology is not ready for the market, it points to the future developments in the industry. This display would double the number of pixels of the best display in the market at this moment (that of the Sony NEX-7). In comparison, 1,4 MP displays will look seriously outdated very soon.

I hope m10 vf stays completely optical. I used the X100 for a bit and it's terrible, whatever the resolution. ovf only

Live view though would be an excellent addition

My guess is that the X2 will be that new system camera between the current X and the M system.

agreed probably in the US$3000-5000 range for body ($3000 if Leica wants to go "mass market" and closer to $5000 if they want to remain "niche") and lenses priced accordingly

my guess: x1 form factor and if i were betting an APS or larger sized sensor with only 3 elmarit lenses initially available having 35mm 90mm and 135mm effective focal lengths an advanced AF with MF available - no OVF

If, that possible new camera is worth $ 3000, I think they can give it this price, whether it is ment for consumers or for the professional market.

It is nonsense to charge $ 5000 for a camera, which is worth only $ 3000.

If this camera is going to cost $ 5000, the sensor should rather be of the FF format than APS-C.

A new camera system from Leica should also be able to offer tele-lenses beyond just 135mm.

In fact, the supply of tele-lenses should gradually reach far beyond that.

I hope. :) :)

Leica responds to 'mirrorless camera' stories news - Amateur Photographer - news, camera reviews, lens reviews, camera equipment guides, photography courses, competitions, photography forums

'With the Leica M9 (pictured), we have the most compact, full format, mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses on the market.

'Of course, we won't stop with the M9, but it is definitely too early to discuss a successor to this model.'

(ok just saw that the info is from Feb 2011)

Well....Would'nt it be interesting to speculate (not for the first time) that one or more of our illustrious forum members, have already been testing the new camera/cameras Anthony Blunt style.;)

If there is to be an M10 in September, there will be mules around now, dressed as M9s.

Anyone who has one, won't be talking about it though, so anything you read here or anywhere else, will be speculation until much closer the time.
